Jayson's lips were warm, carrying a cool, subtle scent. It hit Ariel's senses like a jolt.
She froze at once. The anger that had been raging through her mind just moments ago stalled midstream.
She couldn't process the situation and couldn't understand why Jayson would do something like this out of nowhere.
Neither of them closed their eyes. Jayson didn't miss a single flicker of expression on her face.
Before she could react, his other hand had already ended the call.
It wasn't until Morgan's voice faded that Ariel snapped back to herself.
Jayson's move had been too sudden. By the time she registered it, she had only taken a small step back.
"What are you doing?" She frowned slightly as she looked at him, feeling a bit puzzled.
It wasn't really a big deal. After all, they had done this countless times before.
But after so long, and with their previous unpleasant encounter, it was inevitable that she felt strange.
After asking the question, Ariel lifted her hand to wipe her lips.
Jayson narrowed his gaze. "You find me disgusting?"
Ariel paused. "Aren't you the one being abrupt?"
"Other than the abruptness, you're okay with it?"
She stared at him quietly. "Jayson, what the hell are you doing?"
He didn't rush to straighten up. His gaze swept downward, and his fingertip brushed her lip before he asked, "Are those irrelevant people really worth your anger?"
Well, shifting her attention to him worked pretty well. Better to vent at him than stew over Morgan.
His eyes traced the ridge of her back, which was thinner than before. The curve of her spine showed under the thin silk of her nightgown. He clenched his fingers silently.
Being with him now, Ariel felt a strange unease. Jayson was being brutally honest now, and she wasn't fully used to it.
"You don't need to worry about Morgan. I'll take care of it." Jayson knew Ariel wasn't in the mood to talk about her illness.
His gaze swept to the phone, a faint shadow of menace stirring in his eyes. "Anything you're worried about won't happen. Just ignore his words."
He had been furious when he heard Morgan speaking to her that way. He couldn't allow anyone to torment Ariel, not when her body was so fragile.
A thought struck Ariel. Hesitant, she asked, "Did you know something happened with the Sandersons?"
It wasn't explicit, but both knew the meaning. "I've arranged for several experts from abroad to fly to Eldoria and consult with Liam. They'll come up with the best plan for you. Within two weeks at most, you'll have a solid surgical plan and can go straight to the operation. Trust me, and trust yourself."
This time, he would be with her.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson)
Can you give me more chapters? I was hoping for a happy ending with Ariel and Jayson. Janice with Wade, and if not, put her with Chad, Matt, or even Liam....
Nice and amazing story with gripping turns, but can you give more chapters? And please we need more romance as readers, it has been dragging on a lot, maybe romance, happy ending and end it soon....
