Ariel had no idea who Jayson was talking about.

She no longer tried to hide or suppress her emotions. Ariel knew she would probably feel lost and tormented after the surgery, but she hadn't expected the emotions to hit this hard. It was impossible to simply brush them aside.

When she met Jayson's eyes, she could tell he was trying to lighten the mood.

"Who's that?" she asked.

Jayson hesitated for a moment as he took in the sorrow on her face. Then, he said quietly, "It's a girl. As of today, she's six months old."

Ariel frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"

"She… she's our daughter."

For a moment, Ariel couldn't comprehend what he'd just said. It felt like something had struck her hard on the head. Her mind went blank, and she could barely process his words.

When she finally found her voice, it came out unsteady. "Our daughter? When did we… When did we have another child?"

Jayson took her hand and guided her to sit on the small alpaca stool—the one he'd gone out of his way to decorate. Then, crouching in front of her, he looked her straight in the eyes, his tone solemn.

"The abortion you went through a few months ago wasn't what you thought it was. The doctors who performed it were specialists I hired from abroad.

"It seemed like they were carrying out a regular abortion procedure, but in truth, they used advanced technology—something that only exists overseas—to safely extract the baby and transfer it to an artificial womb."

Ariel's eyes widened in disbelief. For a few seconds, she could only stare at him, wondering if she'd heard him wrong. Could such a thing even be possible?
