Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 768

Ariel stared at Jayson in disbelief, stunned once again by the man before her.

Sensing what she was thinking, Jayson spoke honestly. "I didn't consider the possibility that you might be sick back then. At first, I thought maybe we could start over since you were pregnant. I believed the baby might be the key to bringing us back together.

"I was overjoyed when I went to see you. But you told me you didn't want to keep the baby."

Ariel's fingers curled slightly, numb from shock. "It's not that I didn't want to keep the baby. The baby wouldn't have survived with my health in that condition."

"I know. I misunderstood you," Jayson admitted, his tone heavy with regret. He had been an absolute jerk back then.

He gently caressed the back of her hand. "Because of that misunderstanding, I thought you didn't love me anymore—that you wanted to end the pregnancy because of Lucas calling off his wedding.

"But this was our child. I couldn't just stand by and watch you go through with the abortion. While you promised you'd wait until I came back, I secretly contacted the medical institution in Nacsall. It was because of my insecurity and foolish suspicions.

"I arranged for several doctors to be on standby and had all the necessary equipment delivered to the hospital."

Jayson's voice softened with relief as he recalled, "When the incident happened that day, the men I had stationed at the hospital reported that you were about to have an abortion. They must have missed some details when passing along the message.

"The doctors I hired carried out the procedure. They extracted the baby in the operating room and transferred it into an artificial womb to keep it alive."

Ariel could feel her heartbeat quickening. She was starting to feel light-headed.

"Do you remember how I rushed back to see you, and we ended up parting on bad terms that night? After that, I left the country for a while."

"I do." There was no way Ariel could forget that awful day.
