This time, Ariel could truly feel Jayson's sincerity. He was the one who had given her new hope.
…
Jayson's recovery was progressing well. He had always been strong and resilient, which made healing faster for him.
That afternoon, Ariel received a message from her department at the base—a notice about her new position.
She had just been promoted and would now be leading a team of senior engineers in the research department. There were also follow-up tasks she needed to handle accordingly.
Ariel hadn't informed her superiors about her illness or the surgery she had undergone. Their team had been granted a short break after completing the first phase of the project.
In less than two weeks, they would begin the second phase of research. By then, she would have rested enough to recover fully. After all, her uterus had been removed through laparoscopic surgery, which required only a small incision and a relatively short healing time.
That evening, Ariel took a shower in one of the guest rooms, not wanting to disturb Jayson's rest.
When she came out, she froze. Jayson was sitting comfortably on the guest bed, reading a book. "What are you doing here?" she asked, startled.
Without looking up, Jayson flipped a page. "Why didn't you use our bathroom? If you're sleeping in the guest room, then I'm sleeping here too."
Ariel was at a loss for words. "Jayson, I think you're big enough to sleep alone."
He glanced up. "You know better than anyone how well I've grown, don't you?"
Ariel fell silent immediately, unsure how to respond to his teasing. Knowing Jayson, that remark definitely carried a double meaning.
It was clear he had no intention of leaving.
"I'm going to settle some work matters," Ariel said quickly. "I have an online meeting with my colleagues tonight. It'll probably last for several hours."
"That's fine. Even if you play disco music in here, I'll pretend it's a lullaby."
Ariel stared at him, speechless. Deciding not to argue, she sat down on the couch and turned on her laptop.
Her workload had been piling up, and she couldn't just dump her responsibilities on others because of her health. There were still many issues that required her personal attention and approval.
Earlier that afternoon, Maurice had also informed her that the government had decided to collaborate with Faye Technologies. Together with the fighter jet pilots, both sides would hold an in-depth discussion to make necessary adjustments to their plans.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson)
Can you give me more chapters? I was hoping for a happy ending with Ariel and Jayson. Janice with Wade, and if not, put her with Chad, Matt, or even Liam....
Nice and amazing story with gripping turns, but can you give more chapters? And please we need more romance as readers, it has been dragging on a lot, maybe romance, happy ending and end it soon....
