Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 819

Like a bird eager to spread its wings and fly, Ariel felt both restless and excited. She couldn't quite put those feelings into words.

Instinctively, she grabbed Jayson's hand tightly, as if holding on to him could calm her racing heart.

The baby was finally well enough to be moved out of the incubator. Her vitals and physical condition had stabilized, and she was just like any other healthy newborn.

Jayson called over one of the staff members, who patiently explained everything he and Ariel needed to know.

Ariel paid close attention, memorizing every instruction.

A nurse then took the baby out of the incubator and handed her to Ariel with a warm smile. "Congratulations, Ms. Walker. Your baby is very healthy."

Ariel carefully took the baby into her arms. The moment she felt that small, soft body against her chest, tears welled up in her eyes.

Just as she was about to get a better look at her daughter's face, the baby opened her eyes. They were dark and beautiful, framed by long lashes and delicate double eyelids.

Ariel subconsciously held her breath when she noticed the baby was staring at her.

The next instant, the baby wrapped her tiny fingers around Ariel's.

It was as if she instinctively knew the person holding her was family, and she let out a soft coo.

Ariel's heart skipped a beat.

The staff had clearly taken excellent care of her. Newborns often looked a little scrawny at first, but Ariel's baby had soft, smooth skin.

"Isn't she smiling at me?" Ariel turned to Jayson, whose eyes had already crinkled from smiling.

Jayson leaned forward and gently poked the baby's cheek. "You're right. It's no surprise, though. Her mom is really pretty."

Jayson could see how happy Ariel was. He reached out to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes. "Have you thought about what we should name our daughter?"

Ariel froze for a moment. She had been so busy lately, and since she had only carried the baby for three months, she hadn't given much thought to names. Without having gone through a full pregnancy, she didn't even know where to begin.
