Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 820

There was much Ariel needed to learn—from the correct method for giving her baby milk and changing diapers, to simply learning the right ways to hold a baby.

She also needed to know what to do in emergencies involving her child.

Feeling rather overwhelmed, Ariel wore a grim expression as she started searching for tutorials.

"They say a newborn needs milk several times during the night. We have to be careful about things like the water temperature, the amount of formula, how we mix it, and how we hold the baby while feeding."

Ariel had always been rational and meticulous in everything she did. As a science student, she was patient and detail-oriented. Jayson sat beside her, watching as she scrolled through pages on her laptop.

Rubbing one of his temples with his finger, he said, "Newborns digest milk pretty quickly, so they need to be fed every two to three hours. That means about eight to twelve feedings a day.

"The nighttime feedings are the hardest part. As for water temperature, keep it around 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Use about one ounce of water per feed. The best feeding position is when you're sitting and holding the baby in your arms—it helps prevent choking."

Jayson patiently answered every question Ariel had, providing clear, concise explanations.

Ariel blinked in surprise and turned to him. "You looked all that up beforehand?"

She hadn't expected Jayson to be so well-prepared.

His gaze swept across the materials on her screen. "You might as well just ask me. My knowledge is more complete than anything you'll find online."

He wasn't exaggerating. Jayson had once planned to care for the baby entirely on his own. He had no intention of hiring a nanny because he would still worry.

He had even brought in professionals to train him—everything from how to hold a baby correctly to what to do if a baby choked on milk.

Jayson wanted Claire to grow up as the happiest child in the world, and he was willing to do anything to make that happen.

Ariel could sense how pleased he was with himself, despite the calm look on his face.

"You're making me, the mom, look quite lacking by sounding so much more knowledgeable than I do."
