Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 849

Jayson was a little exasperated with himself.

After straightening up, he walked out with a calm, indifferent expression. When his eyes flicked to Ariel, he noticed she wasn't wearing her ring.

His steps faltered, and a frown formed.

Why wasn't she wearing the ring? Did she not like it or him? Was she trying to change the ring or the husband?

Either way, it wasn't going to happen.

After leaving the PR department, Jayson stopped by the elevator and raised his hand to look at his own low-profile wedding ring. Compared to Ariel's absence of one, it suddenly looked flamboyant.

He was unsure of her stance, but there had to be a reason she wasn't wearing it.

After some thought, he took off his ring and put it in his pocket.

First, it was to go along with her choice and test the waters. Second, wearing the ring himself would draw too much attention. At this point, he didn't want to stir up unnecessary trouble or let many people, especially some people abroad, know about Ariel's existence.

The following month was unbearably tough for the PR department.

Jayson, who usually had a million things to handle, kept wandering downstairs every now and then. He would give brief guidance, then leave again.

He uncovered many internal issues, disciplined several people, and dealt with those who were slacking. However, he balanced discipline with rewards by giving them desserts and coffee every day.

Ariel also saw Jayson dealing sternly with some of the senior staff. It was the first time she truly realized how strict and serious he could be at work. When he became ruthless, it was genuinely intimidating.

She felt tense.

She understood even more clearly that Jayson would never tolerate incompetence around him. If she didn't perform well, she would probably be fired too.

From that moment, she didn't dare relax. Even if Larry didn't require overtime, she stayed back to learn and adapt quickly.

She was usually home around 10:00 pm.

Upon returning, she found Jayson silently sitting in the living room.

"You're still up?" she asked.

Jayson glanced at her casually. "Is the PR department that busy?"

Ariel nodded. "There's a lot to handle. I don't want to be a drag on, so I'm learning as much as I can."

Her initiative left Jayson momentarily at a loss. He stayed silent, thinking of ways to ensure Ariel balanced work and rest.

Ariel looked at his tightly furrowed brows and serious expression. Did he think she wasn't up to the task? After all, she still hadn't gotten the hang of things after all this time.
