"It's fine. The bed's big enough. You can sleep here," Ariel said.

As soon as she finished speaking, Jayson got up and climbed onto the bed. Quietly, he lay down and closed his eyes.

"Please turn off the lights," he said.

"...Oh," Ariel replied.

She switched off the lights, then lay down. There was a significant distance between them on the bed.

She knew Jayson could have any woman he wanted. He wouldn't possibly be interested in her.

Surprisingly, she fell asleep without a second thought, even though a living, breathing man was lying right beside her.

Jayson turned to look at her. This was infuriating.

Did she think he was a gentleman? Did she really think he didn't have any dirty thoughts?

He reached out, tempted to pinch her face, but he stopped himself. Instead, he hooked her pinky finger.

Gradually, he took her whole hand in his. It felt slender and soft.

Not wanting to wake Ariel, he moved closer and rested his head on his hand as he watched her sleeping face.

Her eyelashes were long, her face was beautifully sculpted, and her features were delicate and well-defined.

Her lips were a soft pink, glossy with lip balm. They looked full and radiant. He was captivated just by looking at them.

He lowered his head and softly pressed his lips to hers.

His chest heaved, and his hands bracing the bed tightened involuntarily, veins standing out.

An uncontrollable urge to consume her surged through him. Each frenzied thought and impulse replayed over and over in his mind.

In her sleep, Ariel felt short of breath and instinctively swung her hand. The slap landed on Jayson's face, sharp and crisp.

She didn't wake, but her slap snapped him out of those wild thoughts. His cheek tingled.

It was the first time in Jayson's life someone had slapped him. He stared at Ariel for a long time.
