Janice tilted her head back, biting down so hard she almost tasted blood.

"Then I'll tell you straight. I'm not going back on my words. I don't know why you think that way. When our parents meet and when they discuss things is not something I can just decide on my own. If you're misunderstanding, then find where that misunderstanding started!"

She was furious. Pain was stabbing her chest, but she refused to cry in front of Wade.

She turned to leave.

Janice felt dumb to be tricked into coming home and being questioned like this by Wade.

Suddenly, her wrist was grabbed.

Wade had caught up to her. No matter how Janice tried to pull away, he held on tighter. His Adam's apple bobbed as he said, "Whether you want to break off the engagement or not, today is not the right time to tell them. What reason will you give? If you plan to say it's because of me and Alicia, then don't say it at all."

Janice's lips trembled.

Alicia! Alicia! Alicia again!

He wanted to end the engagement because of Alicia, and now he wouldn't let her speak because of her! Was he that worried about Alicia being affected?

"Why should I keep quiet?" She glared at him with red eyes. "Why should I cover for you and make things work between you two? Am I supposed to just take that?"

Their conflict was because of Alicia. Why should she help hide the real reason?

Wade looked at her and realized Janice had changed. She was no longer the obedient young lady he once knew. Now she was hysterical, even taking her anger out on Alicia.

"You need to calm down. When you're sure you're not acting out of anger, then we can talk."

He didn't want things to get uglier between them. They grew up together, and he knew Janice had always been a bit willful. He could give her time.

Janice's chest tightened. All her seriousness earned was his dismissive label of "acting out of anger"?
