Heidi knew she wouldn't gain much from the inheritance even if she married into the Garner family. Things would be different, however, if Alicia managed to become Wade's wife.
Although Heidi had entertained these thoughts for some time, she was well aware that Alicia genuinely liked Wade. If their relationship worked out, it would lead to the outcome they both desired.
A smirk tugged at Heidi's lips as she thought of Janice.
Janice was no match for Alicia when it came to winning Wade's attention or favor. She stood no chance against Alicia in vying for the man. A naive, simple-minded girl like her posed no threat at all.
Janice watched as the guests murmured and gossiped among themselves.
Frederick was still holding her hand, but she didn't try to pull away. Instead, she faced the crowd—an audience of well-known, prominent figures.
She didn't care if what happened next made her a laughingstock in high society.
"As all of you can see, the groom is not here due to personal reasons." Janice's voice was calm and steady.
Her gaze swept across the room and landed on Chad, who had just entered. She couldn't read his expression since he stood at a distance.
Janice spoke as though she were discussing someone else's affairs. "Actually, this wedding was never supposed to happen today. Wade and I have been planning to go our separate ways for some time."
A wave of shock rippled through the crowd. Even Frederick was caught completely off guard.
Nicholas rose from his seat. For once, he didn't try to silence Janice.
Janice showed no anger or frustration. She seemed almost detached.
"There's one thing I want to make clear, though. Wade was the one who had acted thoughtlessly and irresponsibly by failing to show up here when he was supposed to. A grown man who can't even fulfill the bare minimum of his roles and responsibilities—I don't find anything praiseworthy about that."
Those who had mocked Janice earlier for being stood up now wore awkward expressions.
Still, someone muttered, "Well, that's obviously because he doesn't want to marry you. You're just saying these things now to save face…"
Most of the guests seemed to share that opinion. Janice could see it in their eyes.
She hurled her bridal bouquet onto the floor.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson)
Can you give me more chapters? I was hoping for a happy ending with Ariel and Jayson. Janice with Wade, and if not, put her with Chad, Matt, or even Liam....
Nice and amazing story with gripping turns, but can you give more chapters? And please we need more romance as readers, it has been dragging on a lot, maybe romance, happy ending and end it soon....
