Chapter 61
Calista couldn’t be bothered to go back in and watch them play the happy family. It would only make her feel like an outsider.
With nothing else to do, she decided to head over to Anthony’s ward.
She had planned to walk right in, but just as she arrived at the door, she heard a voice drift out from inside.
“Mom, I already told you. There’s no need for you to do such things. I’ll handle the issue at the factory!”
Anthony rarely raised his voice, especially not at Rebecca.
He was known to be an extremely gentle person. So even Calista, who was standing outside the door, was surprised by his sudden
outburst.
Rebecca seemed flustered. Her eyes brimmed with tears, making one’s heart clench at the sight.
“You brat! Do you think I want to do these things? I simply did it to give Cali a little push.”
As soon as she heard her name, Calista grew even more intrigued. She leaned in closer, listening intently to their conversation.
“Mom, Cali has been living an unhappy life in the Fenwick family for years. They’ve been treating her as nothing more than a tool.” Anthony tried to reason with Rebecca.
The reason he had moved to this side of the hospital was so he could save some money and relieve some of Calista’s financial burden.
“Anthony, the medical bills are one thing, but the issue at the factory is a whole different story. A problem as big as that can’t be solved by just pinching pennies. And what about Justin? Do you not want custody of your own child?”
Rebecca wiped her tears and stood up.
“But-”
Anthony wanted to say more, but Rebecca had already made up her mind.
At this point, she really didn’t know who she could trust anymore.
If she had successfully given birth to her child, perhaps there still would still be a silver of hope in her life.
Calista let the rain pour down her body, her body growing colder by the second.
Before long, her lips turned purple, and her whole body trembled violently. She was cloaked in a deep sense of despair.
“Calista, where are you?”
She didn’t know if she should feel grateful or not. After standing in the rain for so long, her phone surprisingly still worked. However, the first person who called her was Astrid.
Of course, Calista knew that her call wasn’t out of concern for her. So the moment she answered it, she instinctively held the phone away from her.
“I’m outside.”
