Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 113

Chapter 6

The news of my divorce rippled through the upper echelons of society like a sudden storm, unsettling everyone within that exclusive circle. Even though I was still navigating the mandated cooling-off period, admirers kept appearing, each trying to win my favor with increasingly extravagant gestures.

One day, I found myself surrounded by a staggering 9,999 roses; the next, someone presented me with a set of Louis XIV’s ancestral jewels. Later, there was even an offer involving a private cruise ship. The extravagance was overwhelming, yet none of it truly moved me.

Among all these attempts, only one person consistently brought me back to reality—Cabot Wilson. He was the only one who dared to pour cold water on my fleeting fantasies.

“The heir to a billion-dollar fortune like you is about to reenter the dating scene,” he said bluntly one afternoon, settling comfortably on my rabbit-fur couch as he casually munched on a bag of chips. “Most of those suitors are just after your money. Don’t let yourself get swept away again, and please, don’t pick another scumbag like the last one.”

I shot him a sharp glare, irritation bubbling beneath my calm exterior. “Cabot Wilson, don’t you have a couch of your own? Why is it you always show up here?”

He shrugged with a smug grin. “This couch is far more comfortable.”

I smirked, deciding to tease him a little. “So, what kind of man do you think I should be looking for?”

He paused thoughtfully. “Someone from your own social class, I suppose. That way, it won’t just be about your wealth.”

I laughed, the sound light but edged with irony. “With my father’s fortune? Who else could possibly be on my level? You?”

After all, my father and Cabot’s uncle were both fixtures at the very top of the Forbes list.

What started as a joke took an unexpected turn when Cabot suddenly straightened, locking eyes with me in a way that made my breath catch. “What’s wrong with that?”

“…Yes, it’s me. What’s wrong with that?” he repeated, his voice steady and earnest.

For a moment, I was speechless, caught off guard by the intensity in his gaze.

Before I could respond, the butler entered quietly, carrying a message. “Miss Davis, Lukas Clark and his parents are causing a scene in the house again. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have already left to avoid confrontation. They’re asking you to leave as well, so you won’t be disturbed.”

I bristled at the suggestion. “Ridiculous! This is my home. Why should I be the one to leave?”

Rising from my seat, I declared, “I’m going to see what kind of spectacle they’re making.”

“Good idea. I’m coming with you,” Cabot said without hesitation, following closely behind me.

When we entered the living room, Lukas Clark and his parents were seated on the couch, their expressions dark with anger and frustration.

The moment Lukas caught sight of me, his face lit up, and he hurried over to grasp my hand. “Urja, you’re finally here! I’ve been thinking about you every single day these past few weeks…”

Lukas was left speechless, unable to respond.

But his mother wasn’t finished. “Urja Davis, don’t be so arrogant! Do you really think our Lukas can’t find someone better than you?”

She sneered, her voice dripping with contempt. “And you—divorced, despite your family’s wealth—do you honestly believe any man would want to marry you now?”

Of all the Clarks, she was the most deluded, convinced her son was flawless.

I curled my lips into a faint, knowing smile and glanced sideways at Cabot, who had stood silently by my side the entire time.

“It’s your turn to speak now,” I whispered.

Cabot paused briefly, then, with effortless confidence, draped his arm around my shoulders.

“As a man who’s a hundred times better than Lukas Clark, I am honored to be with Urja Davis.” He smiled warmly at the Clark family. “By the way, she just accepted my proposal.”

The room fell utterly silent, shock hanging thick in the air.
