Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 86

Chapter 9

Lucas, in stark contrast to me, had stepped into an entirely different realm—a world that seemed desolate and hollow. In his eyes, all that stretched out before him was a vast emptiness, devoid of hope or light.

“Mia… now that we’re no longer together…” His voice was low, almost hesitant.

“Does that mean, as a stranger, I still have the right to chase after you?” he asked, a challenge woven into his tone.

“I’ll prove to you someone exists who truly deserves your love,” he added, his words stinging like a cold blade.

His declaration ignited a fierce anger within me. My blood boiled, and I couldn’t hold back.

“Enough, Mr. Davis,” I snapped sharply. “If it were up to me, I’d never want to see your face again from this moment onward.”

“The things you’ve done… they’re more than enough to make me sick,” I said bitterly.

“Like attracts like, Lucas. You and Emma probably belong together.”

A heavy silence followed before I forced the words out, “I wish you happiness.”

A sudden, sharp ache stabbed through my chest. But honestly, Lucas’s happiness had ceased to be my concern a long time ago. Those words escaped my lips before I could stop them.

Lucas’s brow furrowed deeply, sorrow clouding his features. “But without you…”

Without a second glance, I turned away and walked off, my steps firm and resolute.

“There’s no one in this world who cannot be replaced,” I murmured under my breath.

“The pain you think you can’t heal? Time will take care of it.”

“But Mia, you must be thriving in your career. I’m sure things are booming for you,” she added, trying to sound upbeat.

Honestly, none of this surprised me. Lucas’s flaws had been apparent even a year ago. He wasn’t a rational man—his only reason for functioning had been my presence, cleaning up the chaos he left behind.

When I walked away from that law firm, it was like severing a vital limb from him.

How could someone like Lucas survive in such a ruthless, competitive battlefield?

His collapse was inevitable—he had brought it upon himself.

I wondered how he would feel now, knowing that some of his former colleagues had chosen to come to me instead of him.

It’s true what they say: those on the right side receive help, while those on the wrong side are left to struggle alone. Lucas must understand that better than anyone.
