Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 91

Chapter 4

Since the day we broke up, I no longer had to keep making deliveries. The exhausting daily grind was finally behind me.

When I called my boss to quit, his voice was filled with surprise. “Willa, what’s going on? You were doing so well! Why the sudden decision to quit? Aren’t you still earning money for your boyfriend’s treatment?”

I forced a smile, even though it felt hollow. “He’s better now. Completely better.”

There was a pause, then relief flooded his tone. “That’s incredible! What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? He’ll definitely get twice the care now. All your suffering finally paid off!”

Suffering paid off? I bitterly smiled to myself, the words tasting like ash.

Wasn’t it Reed who initially got me this delivery job? The one where I worked under the blazing sun and pouring rain for ten grueling hours a day? He had said it was to help me find steady work instead of juggling three part-time jobs. But I knew the truth — it was revenge, a way to make me “suffer more” for his precious Sage.

At least, that chapter was closed now.

The very next day, after hastily packing my few belongings in the dingy rental apartment, I found myself standing in the grand lobby of the city’s most luxurious hotel. The polished marble floors gleamed under the crystal chandeliers, and the air smelled faintly of expensive perfumes and fresh flowers. I dragged my suitcases behind me, feeling like a sore thumb amid the impeccably dressed guests and polished staff. All eyes turned toward me, their gazes sharp and curious.

“Well, well, well! Look who’s here! If it isn’t our hardworking delivery queen, Willa Lynn!” a sharp, venomous voice sneered from behind.

I froze for a moment. It was Sage.

Her usual entourage of sorority girls flanked her, their faces twisted with amusement and malice.

I didn’t stop walking, just kept pulling my suitcases forward, trying to ignore them. But Sage wasn’t about to let me slip away so easily. With a theatrical flair, she and her friends closed in, encircling me like predators eyeing their prey.

“Look who we have here!” Sage exclaimed, pinching her nose as if I reeked of something foul. “How dare some delivery girl set foot in the Ritz-Carlton?”

“Where’s security? Has this place really sunk so low? Letting any trash walk in here? Disgusting!” she spat.

Her friends quickly joined in, their voices dripping with scorn. “Exactly! She’s filthy—don’t let her dirty the carpet!”

“Oh, remember Sage? The one who acts so high and mighty? Swore she was too cool for cash?” another sneered.

“What now? Disabled boyfriend dumps her, and now she’s desperate to snag a sugar daddy here?” someone else mocked, their cruel laughter echoing through the opulent lobby.

I met Sage’s cold, triumphant gaze, my teeth clenched tight. The lies stung, but I refused to let them see my pain. Through gritted teeth, I spat out, “Fuck you.”

Her vicious suggestion was met with eager approval from her friends.

“Yeah, get on your knees and lick!”

“Let’s see how the delivery queen licks floors!”

Several of Sage’s lackeys closed in, their grins cruel and predatory. They grabbed my arms roughly, trying to force me down onto the floor littered with broken glass and spilled liquor.

“Get down on your knees right now!”

“Lick it up! Or we’ll call the cops and have you thrown in jail!”

A crushing wave of humiliation and pain overwhelmed me. My arms were twisted behind my back, my hair yanked harshly. My head was forced downward toward the cold, dangerous floor.

But then, summoning every shred of strength left in me, I lifted my head, my voice hoarse but fierce.

“I’m Willa Lynn. The sole heir of Lynn Corporation. Lincoln Lynn is my father.”
