Chapter 736
Chapter 736
Teresa’s memories with Jennifer were mostly unpleasant. She’d thought how great it would be if Jennifer wasn’t her real sister. But now that it might be true, she didn’t feel happy or relieved. The feelings were too complicated to put into words.
When they were kids, Hannah and Teresa lived together, and Bradley and Natalie treated them both well. Later, she came back as Jennifer. After they reunited, Jennifer became controlling and manipulative, using family ties to control Teresa.
“I’m your real sister. Everything I do is for your own good,” Jennifer would always say.
If she isn’t really my sister, could she say that without guilt later? Will she realize she has been wrong?
‘But Jennifer never showed a trace of regret. She acted so brazenly, always using the excuse that she’s my sister.
“What if she really isn’t my sister? If Jonathan finds out, will he still show her mercy? And what about Donald? How will he treat Jennifer then?‘ Teresa wondered. These questions kept swirling in her mind until she finally drifted off to sleep.
When morning came, Teresa found that she wasn’t the only one who’d had a rough night.
Evelyn looked just as exhausted, with heavy, dark circles under her eyes. Teresa ran into her as she stepped out of her room.
“By the way, where’s Isabel?” Teresa asked.
“She’s staying with Charlie’s sister for a few days. His family missed her,” Evelyn replied.
Teresa raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you worried they’ll speak ill of you in front of Isabel?”
“Why should I care?” Evelyn said breezily. “I’ve had full custody of Isabel. Even if they speak ill of me, Isabel’s still my kid. They wouldn’t dare try to take her from me.”
“That’s nice,” Teresa said, her tone carrying a deeper meaning.
Evelyn let out a sigh. “I’ve been thinking about your sister all night.”
“What exactly were you thinking about?” Teresa asked.
Evelyn’s face grew serious. “If she really isn’t my daughter, then there’s only one explanation. The babies must have been switched at birth.”
Teresa stayed silent, frowning. She’d been thinking the same thing. If Jennifer wasn’t Evelyn’s real daughter, it meant a hospital swap. But accidental mix–ups were rare. ‘Did someone do it on purpose?‘ Teresa wondered.
Just as Teresa was about to ask something else, Jennifer’s voice called out from behind them. “What are you two standing around for?”
“Nothing, Hannah. Let’s finish our breakfast quickly. Then we’ll go get the DNA test done.” Evelyn immediately changed the subject.
Teresa turned to head for the kitchen to help out, but Jennifer blocked her way. “Forget it. You’re the worst cook in the family. I don’t need you burning down my kitchen. If Donald comes back and sees that, he’ll blame me,” Jennifer said.
Teresa was speechless.
Evelyn stepped into the lathen. “Let me handle it. You two just take a break.”
“ril do it. You’d be lost in this kitchen,” Jennifer said, rolling up her sleeves as she marched into the kitchen.
