“Bronwen, it’s been so long. Isn’t it time you let this go?” Wilson said softly, trying to ease the tension.
Bronwen shot him a furious look, her eyes flashing. “So now this is all my fault, is that it?”
Wiona was completely thrown. Was it really her fault? She honestly had no idea what she could have done to make Bronwen hate her so much. If Bronwen despised her, why had she come back and stood by her side when Taylor planned to take her down? But here, face to face, Bronwen acted like she couldn’t stand to be in the same room.
Wiona felt her chest tighten, breath catching. Then she heard Bronwen’s voice, cold and cutting. “None of this would’ve happened if it weren’t for her. I wish I’d never taken her on as a student. I regret introducing her to Cassian most of all.”
Wiona’s head snapped up. It stung before, but now it was like his heart was ripped apart in front of everyone. It was almost funny, in a twisted way. What had she been hoping for? Whatever the reason, she realized there was nothing left to hope for.
“Wasn’t it you who found me all those years ago? You asked to be my mentor,” Wiona said, her voice shaking but strong. “I don’t understand. What did I do to make you hate me like this? If you think I don’t deserve to be your student, just say it. Disown me if you want.”
Bronwen cut her off, voice ice-cold. “Fine. Since you’re here, let everyone witness it. From today on, I, Bronwen, cut all ties with Wiona. Our relationship is finished. She’s no longer my student, no longer part of my school. She can’t use my name for anything. Wiona, I’m not your mentor again. Do you understand?”
The room seemed to freeze. Nicholas just stared, caught off guard by how quickly things had spiraled. He found his voice after a moment. “Bronwen, don’t do this. Can’t we talk about it? You came all the way back from overseas for her. You took on Taylor for her. She cares about you too. Last time, she’s the one who helped you out of the police station…”
Bronwen’s voice cracked like a whip. “Enough! What’s the use of saying all that now? Our time together is over.”
Everyone else looked on, regret and worry etched on their faces, but no one dared step in.
Wilson looked lost, completely at a loss for words. “What’s going on with you? You always liked Wiona…”
Bronwen spun on him, her anger barely contained. “You too? Are you taking her side now? Am I the bad guy? Wilson, you’re the one who should keep quiet!”
Wiona watched them arguing about her while Cassian was still inside—no one even knew if he’d make it. She just felt empty. So tired.
