Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 305

Shelly shivered, startled. There was no way she’d ever dare to talk about Conrad’s private life. Still, something about Wiona’s open, genuinely curious expression made her pause. She chewed her lip, gathering her thoughts, then said quietly, “He is... well, he’s quiet, kind of brooding. He always seems really lonely.”

Wiona raised her brows. Quiet? Brooding? She could believe Conrad was lonely—she’d felt that herself—but those words just didn’t fit. Conrad could be brutally honest, the kind of person who always spotted what you most wanted to hide. His insights were sharp, sometimes a little too sharp, and he never hesitated to speak his mind. That didn’t sound quiet at all.

She shook her head with a small laugh. “Forget it. I can tell you’re all scared of him. I guess none of you really know what he’s like.”

But Shelly wouldn’t let it go. “Ms. Morgan, it’s true. We really are scared of him. Before, when he’d come home, he barely said a word to anyone except Miss Alice. Even Donna and Libby, his old assistants, would only get short instructions from him now and then. The rest of us never saw the side of him you do.”

Wiona looked at her in surprise, waiting for her to keep going.

Shelly hesitated, thinking of what George Phil had said. Ms. Morgan was a special guest at Hawthorne Hall, so they had to do everything they could for her. Talking about Conrad was probably fine, right? Besides, this wasn’t a secret. Everyone in the house knew. Even if she didn’t say anything, Ms. Morgan could just ask around and hear the same stories.

She nodded, making up her mind. “He’s been head of the Sullivan family since he was seventeen. That was ten years ago. I wasn’t here yet, but I heard that back then, his mother still lived here. When he came home, the two of them would talk about work, and about Miss Alice. That didn’t last, though. They started fighting a lot. Then, when his mother moved out, it was just him and Miss Alice in the house. People say he hardly spoke at all after that. In the three years I’ve worked here, I’ve heard his voice less than you probably have in just these past few weeks.”

Wiona pointed to herself. “Me?”
