“I’m not going anywhere. Why are you freaking out? Are you just mad I might go do something fun without you?”
Donna actually got slapped. That’s how wild Alice could get when she lost it. She really didn’t care who was in her way.
When Wiona asked, Alice nodded like crazy.
“It’s not time for us to be apart yet.”
“We can’t be apart.”
So that was it. Alice thought Wiona had left too soon, that she hadn’t gotten enough time with her. No wonder she was so upset.
Smiling, Wiona gently pinched Alice’s soft cheek and led her inside.
But Jace’s eyes were glued to Remy. He looked at her like she was a ghost.
“What are you doing here?”
“Dr. Holmes, why are you with the Sullivan family!?”
Remy froze. Crap. She’d been so busy with Alice, she’d completely forgotten about Jace. Busted!
She hesitated for a split second, then spun around and sprinted through the gate.
Jace, even more suspicious now, rushed toward the gate. “Dr. Holmes! Wiona! You two need to explain what’s going on!”
“Weren’t you the family doctor I hired?”
“Why are you at the Sullivan place!?”
“Wiona, get back here…”
Wiona had already helped Alice onto the shuttle, ignoring Jace’s shouting.
Of course, Jace couldn’t get into the Salisbury estate. The second he got close, Phil and a team of guards blocked him. “Mr. Salisbury. Take one more step and we won’t be so nice.”
Jace’s eyes went bloodshot as he yelled, “Wiona, so you really don’t care about Adler’s life, do you?”
“Molly betrayed the Salisbury family for you, you know.”
“If her dad dies because of you, you seriously won’t feel guilty?”
Wiona heard him, then leaned closer to Alice and whispered, “Stay here and wait for me, okay? I’ll be back in a minute.”
Alice blinked up at her while Wiona got off the shuttle and marched toward the gate.
Phil stepped aside. Wiona walked right up to Jace and slapped him, hard.
“What, you want to join your mom in prison? Still not done with your kidnapping games?”
“Jace, you’re rotten, right down to your bones.”
“You’ve been kidnapped yourself, threatened, and you still go around pulling this kind of nasty crap?”
“Don’t forget how you survived.”
“You owe me your life.”
“You really thought you could take someone and no one would find out?”
“Mr. Bishop already picked up on your trail. If you don’t want to rot in jail, you’d better let him go now.”
“Or… well, you and your mom can’t have a family reunion in the prison. Different genders and all that.”
