Wiona watched the fake Annette, her face twisted with hate as she spat out her confession. Still, Wiona stayed calm. She didn’t flinch, didn’t raise her voice, just waited until the other woman finally paused, confusion flickering in her eyes. Only then did Wiona speak, her tone quiet but sharp.
“So, it really was Sophie behind all of this. She wants to ruin me. And she’s a lawyer, breaking the law like it means nothing. Does she have something else planned?”
The fake Annette let out a harsh laugh. “When did I ever say Ms. Clements planned any of this? When did I say she was involved at all? This was all me. Every bit of it. If you want revenge later, go ahead and try. It’s not my life that’s wrecked. My goal was to destroy you, and I’ve done it. So don’t even think about blaming Ms. Clements. I just can’t stand you. I wanted to do this for her.”
She stepped closer, voice rising with every word. “Why should you get everything, just because you showed up later? Why should Ms. Clements, who loved Mr. Sullivan for so many years, lose him to you? Why should someone like you, who isn’t even half the woman she is, take away her love? And just so you know, I’m only a disciple of the Simpson family. None of them have a clue about what’s happening here. It’s all me, just me. So, Ms. Morgan, enjoy the party I put together for you. You deserve it.”
The fake Annette threw her head back and laughed, wild and triumphant. The excitement Wiona had shut down before now exploded back to life. She almost wanted to shout her victory to the world. Finally, she’d pulled off something big. Finally, she’d done something for Ms. Clements.
The air in the room was growing thick with incense, the smell stronger, heavier. Fake Annette’s thoughts started to blur at the edges. She reached into her pocket for the antidote, fingers moving fast.
Nothing.
Her heart skipped. She checked the other pocket, then another, then all of them, panic rising fast.
Empty. Every single one.
