It was Theodore.
It was Theodore.
The man who owned The Cookie House, dated the blonde girl, and was the stunningly handsome, mature man the nurse had raved about... was Theodore.
He saw her at the same moment. He gave her a slight nod, his expression neutral, his eyes cool and distant—the kind of look you give a passing acquaintance.
Suddenly, an arm tightened around Emma's waist. Sebastian had come to stand beside her, his possessive gaze fixed on Theodore. He was staking his claim.
Theodore, of course, understood. His expression remained placid, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Anna usually makes the deliveries," he said, his voice calm, "but she couldn't manage a three-tiered cake on her own." It sounded like an explanation for his presence.
The nurse who had been swooning over Theodore looked from Emma to him in surprise. "You two know each other?"
Emma looked at Theodore's composed face, about to speak, when he offered a gentle smile. "We're both from Cresthaven. We met back when I was running a company there."
"You owned a bakery in Cresthaven, too?" the nurse asked eagerly.
Several of the nurses at the center were recent graduates, hired in the last year. Otherwise, they might have recognized Theodore from his previous visits to the Cresthaven branch. Or perhaps they had seen him and simply forgotten. After all, so many patients came and went.
Theodore paused for a moment before replying politely, "No."
"Wow, so what made you switch careers and open a bakery here?" the nurse pressed on, full of questions.
