The cake was a mixed berry flavor, and it looked incredible.

But Emma didn't have a single bite.

She knew if she did, the jealous man beside her would probably make her eat nothing but his homemade cakes for the next month.

So, after singing "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Crimson with the staff, she pulled Sebastian out of there.

To her surprise, Theodore and Anna hadn't gone far. They were at a popular pizza joint next to the wellness center, one of those places that always had a line. They'd already gotten their food, and as Emma emerged, she saw Theodore feeding a slice of pizza to Anna. Anna took a bite and smiled so wide her eyes crinkled shut. The setting sun cast a golden glow over them, illuminating her joyful expression. If you didn't know Theodore's history, the scene would look like a picture of pure, simple happiness.

Sebastian's car was parked further down the street, forcing them to walk directly past the pizza place.

"Let's go," Emma said, intending to circle around the back of the line to avoid an awkward encounter.

But Sebastian tightened his grip on her hand and, with his jaw set, marched them straight toward Theodore.

Emma sighed internally. *Fine.*

There was no avoiding it now. Even Theodore couldn't pretend not to see them. He and Anna stood side-by-side, holding their pizza, and gave another polite nod as they approached. Not a word was exchanged.

Sebastian led her past them, cutting through the long line of people waiting, and continued toward their car. Meanwhile, Theodore and Anna moved to the curb, apparently waiting to cross the street.

As Sebastian pulled the car up, he stopped to let them cross. It was his standard practice to yield to pedestrians, but just as Theodore and Anna started to walk, offering a nod of thanks, Sebastian leaned over and planted a firm kiss on Emma's cheek.

Emma was staring straight ahead, her eyes meeting Theodore's across the short distance.

Theodore offered a faint smile, took Anna's hand, and walked on.
