Tatiana didn’t feel safe letting such a young child go alone, so she took her. As they headed out, they bumped into someone.
“Sorry, are you okay?”
Tatiana set Ann down. Just as she reached out to help the person up, they sharply avoided her hand, stood up themselves, muttered, “I’m fine!” and hurried away.
Strange. The person wore a hat and mask, carried a large, heavy–looking backpack, and was dressed in the company’s maintenance uniform, looking rushed.
Tatiana felt suspicious. Maintenance staff working this late?
She turned and saw Ann squatting, poking at something on the floor. There was a bit of powder there.
“Ann, don’t get your hands dirty.”
The little girl suddenly stood up, her face tense, eyes wide. “Mommy! It’s gunpowder! Smell!” She held out her chubby finger, dusted with the powder.
Tatiana leaned in and sniffed. Her expression changed drastically. “Oh no! That person no good!”

She wanted to notify security immediately, but the party was in full swing; she couldn’t just stop everything.
“Mommy! Here!” Ann pointed to the fire alarm on the wall.
“Ann! Get back!”
The little girl scrambled away, watching wide–eyed as her mommy grabbed the fire extinguisher and smashed the alarm casing.
A piercing alarm shrieked through the building.
The person who had been about to drop the backpack whipped around, their face under the mask contorted in fury, “You bitch!!”
The alarm instantly killed the party atmosphere. Everyone looked around, confused.
“What’s going on?” “Let’s go
check!”

But Tatiana scooped Ann up and sprinted for the fire escape.
Behind them, a frantic woman chased after, brandishing a long watermelon knife.
“You bitches! Ruining my plan! Die! Just die! It’s all your fault! My idol was number one, he’s the best! No one can surpass him! But you ruined everything! He cried! It’s all your fault!”
The woman muttered insanely, staying close behind, her beady eyes filled with violent rage.
Tatiana, holding Ann, didn’t dare slow down, fumbling for her phone as she ran. But at this crucial moment, there was no signal. She almost cursed.
Ann held up her wrist. “Mommy! Let me! My watch has signal!”
“Call the police! Quick!”
Ann meant to hit the emergency button, but the jostling stairs made her finger slip, hitting another number–a blocked contact. The call went through.
“Oops, wrong one!” Her little face scrunched up. Just as she was about to hang up, someone answered.
“You finally answered me…” Hubert’s crying filled the stairwell.
Tatiana nearly tripped and fell.
Just then, the woman behind lunged, swinging the knife. “Die!”
Tatiana’s pupils contracted. Acting on pure instinct, she leaped down the stairs.
Agony shot through her ankle. She landed hard but held onto Ann tightly, shielding her. The pain made her vision black out, and she gasped.
Ann looked down and saw her mommy’s right foot twisted at a horrifying angle. “Mommy!” she
screamed.
“Hahahaha! I recognize you! It’s you! Because of you, my idol is sad! Why wouldn’t you write songs for him? Why! Since you won’t, then die! Die! I’ll kill you!” The crazed laughter echoed in the stairwell like a demon’s whisper.
The sounds carried through the watch.
Hubert cried out, “What’s happening? You…”
