“Harpie is still in intensive care! How could he be so cruel?”

A wave of confusion washed over Tatiana, leaving her feeling disoriented. Why would Jasper lash out at Harpie without warning? The thought gnawed at her mind, a relentless whisper that she couldn’t quite silence. Could it be because of me? Did he have an inkling of the truth?
As her thoughts spiraled, Hubert interjected, his voice bright and innocent, “He’s a mean man! He hit me! So Daddy beat him up!”
In an instant, Tatiana’s doubts evaporated. The fierce instinct to protect one’s child often leads to impulsive decisions. Once you embrace the role of a parent, your priorities shift dramatically.
During lunch, the two children, filled with youthful energy, expressed their eagerness to play in the designated kids’ area. When Tatiana noticed Ann’s genuine enthusiasm for play—a rare sight—she couldn’t help but smile and quickly agreed to take them. Jasper, naturally, rose to accompany them, leaving Anna behind, momentarily stunned by the sudden shift. It struck Tatiana how much it felt like they were a family of four, while she remained an outsider, merely the nanny in their midst.
“Mommy! Hubert and I will play over there. You sit here so you don’t get tired,” Ann chirped, her voice bubbling with excitement. She even found a seat for her mother before dashing off with Hubert.
Tatiana was caught in a whirlwind of emotions, unsure whether to laugh or cry, as a warmth spread through her chest, enveloping her like a comforting blanket.
A young mother nearby observed the scene with a smile. “Daughters really are so sweet and considerate, finding a seat for her mom. Boys can be so oblivious, like my little rascal. You’re fortunate—a boy and a girl, both so adorable.”
Tatiana hesitated, caught off guard by the misunderstanding. “He’s not my son,” she replied, her voice instinctively firm.
“Not your son? You must be joking! They both resemble your husband so much. He’s stunning, like a movie star!”
Tatiana felt her heart race, her body tensing as she glanced nervously at Jasper, praying he hadn’t overheard. “No! You’re mistaken!” she insisted, her guilt swelling within her. She regretted having taken off Ann’s mask earlier. Although Ann bore a striking resemblance to her younger self, there were subtle hints of Jasper in her features, only visible to those who looked closely.
“Are you feeling nervous?” Jasper’s voice cut through her thoughts, startling her as he appeared beside her.
Tatiana jumped slightly, her heart pounding. “No!” she denied with fervor, her cheeks flushing.
He turned his gaze back to Ann and Hubert, who were gleefully playing on the seesaw. “You’ve raised Ann well,” he remarked casually, but there was an undercurrent of something deeper in his tone.
