Mia shoved the empty bowl in front of Sienna, lifted her chin, and flashed a smug grin. “See, Miss Cooper? I finished every last drop.”

Sienna shot her a lazy glance, the corner of her lips curling up smugly. “Honestly, when a dog’s chewing on a bone, you think it cares whether that bone came out of a toilet or not?”

The sheer humiliation in Sienna’s words made Mia’s face go utterly pale. And the second she heard “toilet,” that nasty taste in her mouth got even worse, nearly making her gag.

Mia tried to act tough. “You claim the broth’s poisoned, so why am I still breathing?”

Sienna raised her soft, pale hand, holding up three fingers.

Mia let out a burst of laughter. “Oh, don’t tell me I’m gonna drop dead in three days? Three months? Three years?”

Sienna tucked one finger down, her lips curling slightly as she said, “Two.”

Mia’s laughter came to a screeching halt. She eyed Sienna’s hand, scoffing, “Please, stop the games. You’re just…”

“One.” Sienna folded down her last finger.

As soon as that word left Sienna’s lips, Mia froze in place.

“Ah.” Her face went ghostly pale, so awful she looked like she’d seen death itself.

She clutched her stomach, doubling over uncontrollably as large beads of cold sweat burst across her forehead.

“My stomach… It hurts… my stomach…” Mia’s voice shook, each word ragged with pain and breathless gasps.

Suddenly, a sickly sweet metallic taste flooded her throat, and a sudden gush of dark red blood splattered across the floor.

She couldn’t hold herself up any longer. She collapsed to her knees, curling into a ball and howling in pain.

Within moments, her clothes were drenched in cold sweat.

“Miss Mia.” Finn was the first to react, rushing to call the servants over to steady her.

“Mia.” Sherwood’s expression grew grim as he pushed himself up from the table. “Get Dr. Arnold here, now.”

Jensen Arnold, the Brown family’s personal physician, arrived in no time.

He immediately began examining Mia, and after a moment, his expression turned grim. “She’s showing acute liver damage and internal bleeding. It looks like an acute drug intoxication. “What are you waiting for? Get her to the hospital.” Sherwood snapped at Finn. “Go with her and make sure nothing happens to her. I want Mia safe.”

“Yes, sir.” The servants scrambled to lift Mia and rushed her out the door, heading straight for the hospital.

Amanda stood frozen, staring at the glaring pool of dark red blood on the floor, her complexion pale.

She was ice cold all over, trembling like a leaf, her features etched with pure terror and disbelief.

Wide–eyed, she glanced from the bloodstained floor to the open thermos sitting next to the table.

No way… There really is something wrong about Wellness Powder?‘ Amanda thought, heart pounding in panic. ‘It was just like Sienna said. But this is Dr. C’s prescription… How could Dr. C’s medicine ever be toxic?‘

She was losing it. Her thoughts were all jumbled up, and that overwhelming fear was crushing her, making it almost impossible to breathe.

Just imagining that scene made Amanda’s knees buckle.

With tears streaming down her face, Amanda kept apologizing to Sherwood, desperately trying to win his sympathy.

“Every medicine has some toxicity, you know. Getting the dosage right is crucial, especially when it’s for an overseas auction. The effects, usage, and dosage are all tightly regulated, with experts overseeing every step,” Sienna cut in, her voice slow and steady. “So tell me, was it really ignorance, or just carelessness?”

Amanda’s expression twisted into something even more pitiful. Resentment flashed in her tear–filled eyes as she shot Sienna a glare.

‘That damn nobody from nowhere. Just trying to score points with Sherwood and Mason, and now she’s humiliating me right in front of them. Amanda seethed inside.

‘She thinks she’s got some big expertise in traditional medicine. Just because I messed up, she jumps at the chance to make me look like a fool in front of Sherwood and Mason.

‘She wants Sherwood and Mason to completely turn against me. She’s so scheming.‘

“I swear I didn’t… How could you think I didn’t care?” Amanda sobbed, her words shaky as she tried to win over Sherwood and Mason. “I even put everything on the line to win Wellness Powder at the auction. Sherwood watched Amanda–she was a total mess, sobbing so hard she could barely even breathe.

He’d pretty much seen her grow up, and honestly, he’d always hoped she’d end up marrying into the family someday.

Sherwood sighed, his tone complicated. “Don’t cry, Amanda. I know you didn’t mean for this to happen. It’s not your fault. Good thing Sienna was here…”

That line about Sienna being here made Amanda clench her fists till her nails dug into her skin, her heart tightening in anger and anxiety.

She’d dumped a boatload of cash just to snag that Wellness Powder at auction, all so she could score brownie points with Sherwood.
