Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 147

But all Tyler felt was a pounding headache.

He knew exactly what Vivienne wanted, what she was trying to do.

But he just couldn't bring himself to go along.

Even with Vivienne standing there in a flimsy nightgown, her perfume clinging to the air, her every move a silent invitation—his heart remained utterly unmoved.

There was no desire. Nothing.

Vivienne pressed herself against him, taking his hand and guiding it toward her chest.

Suddenly, Tyler pulled away and got to his feet.

"Tyler?" Vivienne's voice trembled with confusion.

"You're not well. You should get some rest," Tyler said, his back to her.

"Tyler, do you… not like me?" Her voice quivered, on the verge of tears.

He didn't answer.

"She got to do those things—why can't I?" Vivienne's words wavered, a hint of a sob escaping.

"Tyler, I want this. Please, will you give it to me?"

By now, her meaning could not have been clearer.

But Tyler still couldn't bring himself to say yes.

"I should go. My grandmother's expecting me for breakfast tomorrow." Tyler grabbed his keys and went for the door, tossing out the excuse.

"Tyler!" Her cry was sharp, desperate.

He hesitated, forced to glance back—only to find Vivienne behind him, her tear-streaked face framed by nothing but bare skin.

She wept as she spoke. "Tyler, can't you just give me this?"

Tyler shut the door, shielding her from prying eyes in the hallway.

He walked over, picked up her clothes from the floor, and draped them gently over her shoulders.

"Vivienne, I'm exhausted. I just… don't feel like it."

He truly felt nothing at all.

Tyler hung his head, fists clenched tight at his sides, unable to answer.

Vivienne let out a broken laugh. "Right. I'm disgusting. I'm worthless."

"But Tyler, I never wanted…"

Her words trailed off, swallowed by her tears.

It took all the strength Vivienne had just to force out those few sentences. Her knees gave way, and she sank to the floor, sobbing.

Tyler looked down at her, his right hand trembling.

Finally, he crouched beside her, offering a tissue.

"Vivienne, what happened wasn't your fault." His voice was soft, as if comforting a child. "It was mine."

Just then, the doctor Tyler had called arrived. Tyler helped Vivienne back into her clothes and let the doctor in.

When Vivienne saw who it was, a flash of panic rippled through her eyes.

She couldn't let the doctor examine her.
