Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 229

“Should I follow them, Mr. Erickson?” Secretary Jensen asked from the driver’s seat.

Tyler only shook his head.

He wasn’t even sure why he’d come in the first place. Maybe he just wanted to see her.

But he knew Emilia didn’t want to see him.

She was still angry.

The sound of mother and daughter laughing together seemed to linger in the air—just a few words, but enough to make his chest ache.

She hadn’t denied what Bella said.

And then there was that beef stew with tomatoes.

She hadn’t made it for him in a long time.

Not just the stew—there were so many things.

Back then, no matter how late he came home, she would wait up for him, a table full of homemade dishes ready and warm.

She always managed to make him feel safe, at home.

But now...

Tyler closed his eyes.

Those days felt like a lifetime ago.

“How many days are left in the waiting period?” Tyler finally asked.

Secretary Jensen answered instantly, as if he’d memorized it. “Today is day twenty-eight, sir. In two days, you and Mrs. Erickson can finalize the divorce.”

Tyler didn’t respond. Secretary Jensen glanced at him in the rearview mirror, hesitated, then ventured, “Have you changed your mind, Mr. Erickson?”

Tyler opened his eyes, catching Jensen’s gaze in the mirror.

Jensen immediately looked away. “I’m sorry, sir. I shouldn’t have asked.”

Tyler turned his own gaze to the window, letting the conversation drop.

It was dismissal time at the preschool. The street was crowded with parents picking up their children.

He watched couples walk out, hand in hand with their kids, smiling and laughing. Something twisted inside him.

“How many years have you worked for me, Israel?” Tyler asked.

Israel—Jensen’s first name.

“I started when you took over the company at twenty-two, sir. It’s been six years now,” Jensen replied.

Six years.

But Emilia had been with him for seven.

A certain man had tried nearly every beef stew with tomatoes in Alden City, but none of them tasted quite right.

Tyler stared at the bowl in front of him.

Had his taste buds changed?

Wasn’t stew just stew?

Even if it wasn’t made by her, it shouldn’t taste this different.

Finally, Tyler set down his fork.

He’d been feeling strange lately.

Maybe he really did need to see a doctor.

Time slipped by.

The twenty-eighth day of the waiting period passed.

The twenty-ninth day came and went, busy and uneventful.

That night, Emilia returned late from the studio, exhausted. When she finished showering and checked the clock, midnight had just passed.

The thirtieth day had begun. In twenty-four hours, the divorce waiting period would be over for her and Tyler.
