Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 238

Seven years ago, after Tyler pulled her out from under Absolon Foster’s control, Absolon started behaving himself for a while—once he learned who Tyler really was. But it didn’t last. Soon enough, Absolon went right back to his old ways.

“Emilia, do you really think I don’t know what’s going on?”

“Mr. Erickson doesn’t care about you. He’s just playing around, that’s all.”

“Do you even know who the Ericksons are? Who are you, Emilia? Do you think you’re still that Ms. Dennis from before?”

“The Dennis family is gone—wiped out. I’m the one who took you and your mother in. If it weren’t for me, you two would be out on the streets, selling yourselves to survive!”

“Starting this month, you’re bringing me money. Every month. You hear me?”

The humiliation, the demands for cash—they came over and over, getting worse each time.

Until that day, five years ago.

It was raining. Emilia stopped by the house to check on her mother, only daring to come in after making sure Absolon was out. But her mother wasn’t home either.

And then Absolon Foster stumbled in from the rain, reeking of booze.

Emilia’s instincts screamed at her to leave, but before she could, he caught her.

He demanded money, but the payment from her latest songwriting deal was still tied up in red tape.

“Haven’t you been seeing Mr. Erickson? Didn’t you say he likes you? Get him to send you some money. Now!”

“Absolon, I told you, I’m not asking him for anything. I’ll earn the money myself, just give me—ow!”

Before she could finish, Absolon grabbed her by the hair and slammed her forehead into the doorframe.

Blood started streaming down her face.

“Trying to act all high and mighty now?”

“You say you haven’t asked Mr. Erickson for money, so what—been out selling yourself instead?”

“I haven’t!” Emilia screamed, struggling.

Absolon spat in her face. “You’re still putting on that innocent act for Mr. Erickson? Please. Emilia, it’s been two years. Word is, you’re just his lapdog.”

“Let me go!” she shouted, fighting to free herself.

But Absolon’s grip was iron-tight. He kept smashing her head—against the door, the floor.

But then, through the haze, she saw a familiar silhouette—and heard an enraged voice:

“Absolon Foster, I warned you!”

Tyler had come for her. Again.

In her panic, she’d managed to call him. Somehow, the call had gone through.

He chased Absolon off and scooped her up.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m here.” That’s what he said, five years ago.

Now, five years later, in a seaside restaurant, Emilia took another sip of wine, forcing down the memories.

“He has every reason to laugh,” she said, setting her glass down. “After all, he hates me that much.”

Ten years in prison.

Five years ago, Tyler gathered the evidence—not just of Absolon’s abuse, but of every crime and dirty dealing—and made sure he went away for good.
