Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 239

She still hadn’t figured out how to get Absolon Foster and Paisley to divorce. Only then could she finally sever every last tie with that devil.

“So, you brought me here on purpose,” Emilia said, glancing at Tyler. “To reminisce about old times?”

Tyler just looked at her, noticing her reddened eyes.

He shook his head. “It just happened to be the only place available,” he replied.

Emilia nodded, swallowing down the storm of emotions threatening to spill over.

“If there’s nothing else, I think we can wrap up dinner now,” she said, her voice composed but icy. “You asked me to bring Bella, and I did. What more do you want?”

Outside, night had fallen completely.

“Let’s have one dance,” Tyler said, his gaze fixed on her.

She looked so slender, her eyes rimmed with red, her hair pinned up at the nape of her neck in a way that made her look almost delicate.

But all he could see was the little girl she’d once been.

So many years ago, in that summer that seemed to last forever, he’d watched the Dennis family from the shadows—like a stray, peering in from the cold, desperate for a taste of their happiness.

Now, for once, he wanted to dance with her too.

He managed a small smile. “Just like you used to, when you were a kid.”

Tyler crossed the room, switched on the music, and walked back to her, bowing slightly as he offered his hand.

Emilia stared at it, her heart aching.

She thought of her mother and father.

Back then, the Dennis family had been at their peak—on the verge of becoming the fourth great powerhouse in Alden City. The Dennis name, Mrs. Dennis, Miss Dennis… they’d been the envy of everyone.

The three of them had been so happy together. She’d believed that happiness would last forever.

Her parents had been devoted to each other. But then her father died, and her mother… drifted away.

He said her name gently.

“In five months, everything will go back to the way it was. Nothing will have changed. We’ll be just like before.”

The music faded.

Emilia slipped her hand from his grip and stepped back, putting space between them.

He looked as if he wanted to say something, but she turned away, refusing to meet his gaze.

Like before? There was no going back.

Some things, once broken, could never be put right again. Once a heart died, there was no bringing it back.

“Tomorrow morning. Nine o’clock,” Emilia said, forcing her voice to stay steady.

“Bring the signed papers and all the documents we’ll need,” she added. “I’ll see you at the city hall entrance.”
