Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 244

Fireworks had been lighting up the sky over Alden City for what felt like ages, drawing countless people from their homes to marvel at the dazzling display.

“Did you hear anything about fireworks tonight? What’s the occasion?” one woman asked, craning her neck as colors burst above.

“No idea,” her friend replied, shaking her head. “I even looked it up earlier this week. There haven’t been any events scheduled—didn’t we just have a festival not long ago?”

“So what’s all this about?”

“Probably some big shot trying to impress his girlfriend. Remember last year, when Tyler and Emilia got married? The whole city was lit up for hours.”

“Oh, I remember. Only someone with Tyler’s kind of money could afford to burn it on a whim like that.”

“It’s a shame, really. They barely made it a year before Tyler started trailing after Vivienne.”

“Don’t say that. Vivienne’s had a rough time of it too.”

Vivienne saw the fireworks too, from her apartment window.

She still remembered the day Tyler and Emilia walked out of city hall. Tyler had shown her the divorce papers—she knew exactly when it would all be final.

So, lately, Vivienne had been keeping her head down, doing her best not to antagonize Emilia. The last thing she wanted was for Emilia to refuse the divorce.

But…

Vivienne paced around her living room, phone clutched tightly in her hand.

Why hasn’t there been any news?

She’d already sent someone to collect the five hundred thousand, but after that…

Everything had to go smoothly. If Emilia ever found out what she’d done—if she went to Tyler and the divorce fell through—what then?

There was still the thirty-day waiting period, and after that, they’d have another month to make it official.

Unable to hold back any longer, Vivienne dialed her contact.

It only rang once before he picked up.

“Well?” Vivienne whispered, barely above a breath.

“I’m on it,” came the low, gravelly reply.

The body flipped and skidded, unmistakably human.

And then, without hesitation, the car ran them over again.

It was deliberate. No question.

Joyce screamed, slamming on the brakes and pulling to the side of the road, hazard lights blazing. She watched the car disappear into the darkness, heart pounding, then fumbled for her phone—calling 911 and begging for an ambulance.

Felix and Tyler arrived at the police station together.

They’d been about to head to Alden General Hospital when Felix’s phone rang. On the other end, Joyce was sobbing, barely coherent as she told him she’d witnessed a hit-and-run and needed him to come pick her up at the station.

It was the precinct out in the suburbs.

Tyler overheard the call from the passenger seat.

He told Felix to use his car—he’d drop Felix off at his place on the way, and then Felix could take it from there.
