Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 245

But in the end, he decided to go along, just in case he could help somehow.

They dropped the female driver off halfway and continued on to the suburban police station with Secretary Jensen.

Joyce was still giving her statement.

Even though she was a doctor and no stranger to blood and trauma, this was the first time she’d ever witnessed a crime scene.

She didn’t even know if the person who’d been hit and then run over had survived.

She’d done what she could for emergency care at the scene, but after the paramedics took the victim away, she had no idea what happened next.

Now, though, she was much calmer than when she’d first called Felix.

As Officer Cynthia walked by, she caught sight of Tyler.

Earlier, she’d been at the Eastborough Precinct, sorting through files and planning to call Tyler in for questioning the next day. But then a call came in about an incident out in the suburbs. They’d checked nearby surveillance footage and spotted the driver.

The driver had tried to disguise themselves, but their build looked eerily similar to someone from the Emilia case.

Since the footage showed someone coming from Eastborough, Cynthia had a vague memory of the person, just from a passing glance. She sent the clip to Cynthia and was told to come over right away.

She’d just reviewed it—couldn’t be sure, but it was definitely suspicious.

And then, stepping out into the hallway, she immediately saw Tyler. What were the chances? What was he doing here?

She called out to him at once.

“Tyler!” Cynthia strode over quickly.

Tyler was confused—he didn’t think he knew this officer.

“Officer, is something wrong?” he replied, a bit wary.

Felix glanced over, just as puzzled.

“Tyler, you’re Emilia’s husband, correct?” Cynthia showed her badge.

Tyler nodded.

“I’d like to talk to you about your wife Emilia’s car accident…”

Once Cynthia had finished the paperwork and brought Tyler to sit down, he finally realized what was happening.

Secretary Jensen was still hovering nearby, insisting they wait for a lawyer.

But as soon as Tyler heard it was about Emilia’s accident, he followed them in.

“We’re supposed to finalize the divorce tomorrow,” Tyler said quietly.

The officers exchanged a look and nodded.

Truth was, after a thorough investigation, their suspicions about Tyler had started to ease.

Instead, their focus had shifted to someone else.

“That night your wife called you several times. Why didn’t you answer?” Cynthia pressed.

“I…” Tyler faltered.

He had answered Emilia’s first call, but assumed she was just picking a fight, so he hung up. When she called again, he’d put her on Do Not Disturb and ignored her completely.

The two officers shared another glance.

They pressed him to answer.

Tyler responded as best he could, question after question.

The interview felt endless.

But inside, his mind was a tangled mess.
