Emilia’s face kept flickering before Tyler’s eyes, over and over.
He saw, once again, the image of her in the hospital that day—the white bandage wrapped around her head.
“Thank God... it was just a scratch,” he whispered under his breath.
Nothing had reached the point of no return yet, he told himself. As long as he explained everything to her…
She would forgive him, wouldn’t she?
Meanwhile, Joyce completely lost it.
“Just a scratch? Are you kidding me? Did you already forget you shoved her?” Joyce stormed up to Tyler, ready to kick him right then and there.
“Do you even know what she—”
“Joyce!” Felix grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
“Are you seriously defending him now, Felix?” Joyce was practically shaking with anger.
She could still see the blood all over Emilia that day—how could anyone forget?
“Do you even know what Emily’s been through these past few days…” Joyce’s eyes were red, her voice catching as she fought tears.
But Felix simply shook his head, silently urging her not to say another word.
Tyler, meanwhile, didn’t hear a thing they said. His attention was elsewhere—on Emilia, who had just stepped out of another office.
“We’re already searching, but you still need to be careful,” Cynthia was saying to her.
“I know, I will. I…”
Emilia was still talking to Cynthia when Tyler appeared beside them, eyes bloodshot, grabbing Emilia’s wrist tightly.
“We need to talk,” he said, his voice rough.
Cynthia glanced from Tyler to Emilia. If Emilia showed the slightest sign of reluctance, she was ready to intervene.
“It’s about tomorrow at nine,” Tyler added quickly, seeing Emilia hesitate.
Emilia already knew what was coming—she’d heard about it from Joyce and Cynthia just a few minutes ago.
She’d thought there was nothing left to say between her and Tyler. But tomorrow at nine… That was the time they’d agreed to meet at the courthouse to finalize their divorce.
Felix gave his sister a helpless look. “If you’d kept going, you would’ve blurted out about Emilia’s miscarriage. She wants to divorce him, Joyce. If Tyler found out now, do you really think he’d let her go through with it tomorrow?”
Joyce wasn’t convinced. “He’s head over heels for Vivienne. He’d do anything for her. Why would he care about this?”
Felix shook his head. “I’m not so sure.”
Joyce shot him a puzzled look, but Felix didn’t elaborate.
“Either way, let’s not make things messier than they already are,” Felix said.
Joyce finally nodded. “Yeah, you’re right.”
She lifted her head, eyes following Emilia and Tyler as they slowly walked away.
“I just… I just feel so bad for Emily,” Joyce whispered. “Seven years.”
Felix nodded. Yeah. How many seven years does a person get in this life?
…
Outside, Emilia followed Tyler to the car.
