Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 247

"Tyler, just because my dad’s the hospital director doesn’t mean you get to use the hospital’s resources however you want."

Felix’s tone wasn’t as heated as Joyce’s, but every word hit Tyler like a sledgehammer, heavy and unrelenting.

“That day, I came downstairs to find you.”

Felix spoke slowly, each word deliberate. “I admit, I said things that upset you. But Tyler, ask yourself—your wife was in the hospital. Shouldn’t you have at least visited her?”

“If you’d bothered to look at her chart, you would have known what was wrong.”

Felix’s eyes met Tyler’s, taking in the red-rimmed exhaustion.

He went on, voice ringing out clear and cold, “But you didn’t.”

“She was hospitalized for days, and you never visited her. Not once.”

“He did visit—” Joyce cut in with a mocking laugh. “Didn’t he claim he saw you and Emily together, hugging or something?”

“Oh, right. Almost slipped my mind.” Felix nodded. “Thanks for reminding me.”

“But even if you were hugging Emily, so what? Tyler’s been running around with Vivienne, worried sick, always by her side. And you were just steadying Emily because she could barely stand!”

“And the worst part is, Emily got hurt because he pushed her down the stairs. Yet he still has the nerve to say such heartless things!”

“Emily’s stuck by him for years, given up so much for him. And what did she get in return? Nothing. Tyler, your heart’s colder than stone.”

Felix jumped in, dryly, “Not stone. Just handed over to Vivienne.”

Joyce let out a bitter laugh. “Oh, right—I see. Vivienne’s the ‘dog’ you gave your heart to.”

The siblings volleyed insults and recriminations, their voices rising and falling in a jagged rhythm, now sharp with anger, now dripping with sarcasm.

The longer Tyler listened, the deeper the ache in his chest grew.

Their voices rang in his ears, making the world spin and tilt.

She’d been in the hospital for days, and he hadn’t visited her once.

And after she’d fallen, the way she’d called out to him, her voice trembling from the floor below—“Tye.”

It felt like ages since she’d called him that.

A wave of dizziness swept over him.

He saw her laughter, her tears, and the stunned look in her eyes the night he demanded a divorce, when she asked him, “What about me?”

“See, Felix?” Joyce scoffed. “Some people always have an excuse for themselves. Doesn’t matter what really happened.”

“One ‘I didn’t mean to’ and suddenly it’s all okay? That’s way too easy.”

Joyce’s voice jabbed at him, but Tyler barely heard her.

It felt like the air had been sucked from the room.

He couldn’t breathe. The guilt was suffocating.
