Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 309

“Tyler!”

Everything in front of him felt unreal. By the stairwell, he seemed to catch a glimpse—just for a moment—of Emilia’s figure tumbling down, a ghostly replay of that day. He could almost hear her desperate cry, echoing with the memory of himself, too afraid to look back.

As Parker was about to speak again, Tyler heard his own voice cut through the silence.

“We’re divorced.”

His words sounded strange, as if spoken by someone else entirely.

Parker, raising his cane, froze in place.

“What?” Parker’s disbelief was palpable.

Tyler lowered his gaze, staring at the glowing green letters above the emergency exit.

“It’s done. The waiting period is over. We signed the papers a few days ago.”

The hallway fell silent for three long seconds.

Then Dailey’s incredulous voice broke the stillness. “Sir, this isn’t funny. You can’t lie to your grandparents just to avoid calling your wife!”

But Tyler only pressed his lips together, refusing to answer.

“You—”

Parker’s anger boiled over. He swung his cane at Tyler, the blow landing with a sharp crack.

“Well done, Tyler. Just brilliant!”

Parker’s breathing became ragged, chest heaving, eyes bloodshot as he jabbed a trembling finger at Tyler.

“So, you filed for divorce from Emily at least a month ago!”

“Which means you were shamelessly parading around with Vivienne while you were still married.”

“Unbelievable! You threw away your marriage for Vivienne!”

Parker’s hands shook with fury, his lips quivering as he pointed at Tyler.

“How did the Erickson family end up with someone like you?”

“I— If I don’t beat some sense into you—!”

He raised his cane again, striking Tyler hard. But as he went to strike a third time—

But she pushed him away again, cold and unyielding.

The motion-activated lights in the stairwell flickered uncertainly.

No matter how desperately Tyler tried to help, his grandmother kept shoving him back, her rejection absolute. The chaotic struggle brought back the memory of that other day, the shouting and confusion in this very stairwell.

Then, everything descended into chaos. Medical staff rushed in and wheeled Parker away for emergency treatment.

Tyler followed anxiously, only to be shut out of the ER, the doors sealing him off from his family.

His grandmother’s final words lingered painfully in the air—

“If something happens to your grandfather, I’ll follow him. Remember this, Tyler: both our lives are in your hands.”

Tyler stared at the closed doors of the emergency room. People hurried past, murmuring things he couldn’t quite hear.

None of it felt real.

How had things come to this? How had he managed to ruin everything so completely?

What was he supposed to do now?
