Of course she understood him.
After seven years together, after all those times their lives had depended on each other, how could she not?
But maybe everything wasn’t quite the way Christian Donovan imagined.
Tyler Erickson didn’t fail to grasp the idea of risk management—he just preferred to make amends after the fact.
Only, Tyler had let Vivienne Hargrave cloud his judgment.
What he thought of as making things right looked very different from Vivienne’s perspective.
Emilia Dennis walked hand in hand with Bella, heading outside.
They chatted about the funny things Bella had experienced at preschool that day. As they turned the next corner, a familiar car came into view.
Theodore Glenn was waiting by the car, smiling as he waved at them.
In his arms, he held a cat carrier, and from inside it, a chubby ragdoll cat let out a soft “meow.”
Bella’s eyes lit up in an instant.
Emilia couldn’t help but find her reaction amusing.
Theodore had tried to win Emilia over with this particular cat before. It hadn’t worked on her, but Bella was completely enchanted by the fluffy creature.
They made their way over and climbed into the car.
As soon as the doors closed, Theodore released the cat, who immediately rolled onto its back, inviting belly rubs like a seasoned pro.
On the back seat of the car sat an enormous, ridiculously soft plush dog—well, more accurately, a gigantic cushion in the shape of a floppy-eared pup.
Bella glanced at Emilia. When Emilia nodded, Bella dove onto the cushion and eagerly scooped the cat into her arms.
Emilia was impressed by the entire performance.
“I’ve seen this little guy a few times now,” she said, grinning. “What’s its name?”
“Her name’s Coco,” Theodore replied.
Emilia paused for a split second at the simplicity of it.
What a perfectly plain, unremarkable name for a cat.
Theodore caught her expression and grinned, adding, “George wanted to call her Porkchop, but I thought Coco sounded much nicer.”
Emilia bit back a laugh. Coco it was. Not bad, really.
The group went out for dinner together.
Emilia couldn’t help but be amused—so much for their promise of only seeing each other once a week. Lately, it felt like they met almost every day.
