Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 368

Tyler visited Absolon Foster again—Emilia’s ex-stepfather.

They sat facing each other on opposite sides of the thick glass, their eyes locking until, at last, Absolon picked up the phone receiver first.

Tyler lowered his gaze, then reached for his own receiver.

“So, why are you here again?” Absolon’s voice crackled through the line. “Well? Did you get that divorce? Or was it her who refused?”

Tyler’s expression remained calm as ever. “It’s done,” he replied.

“But…”

A shadow clouded Tyler’s eyes.

“She wanted to leave from the very beginning.”

That seemed to amuse Absolon. He leaned forward, lips curling in a mean-spirited smile.

“So, you thought it was your choice to end things—but really, she was the one who didn’t want you.” The words hit like a slap.

Tyler said nothing, just sat in silence.

Absolon burst out laughing, the sound ragged and almost manic. He laughed so hard he was nearly gasping for breath.

“Oh, God,” he wheezed after a while, wiping tears from his eyes. “I never thought this is where you two would end up.”

“I still remember that day you were on your knees begging for her, while I stood over you, treating you like a dog.”

“I always thought you two were head over heels for each other.”

He let out another harsh laugh. “Guess it wasn’t all that deep after all.”

Tyler stayed silent.

Suddenly, Absolon’s gaze sharpened, a nasty glint in his eyes. “If you hadn’t pulled your little tricks back then, she’d have been ruined by me for sure.”

Then, with a sneer, he added, “Ever regret saving her? Wouldn’t it have been better to let me beat her to death? Now look where you are—”

“I don’t regret it,” Tyler cut him off, his voice quiet but firm.

“I came here today to make up my mind,” he said.

He knew today was the day of Bella’s surgery, but he also knew Emilia would never let him see the girl.

So he came here instead.

Emilia finally let herself breathe.

Together, they wheeled Bella toward her room. Joyce squeezed Emilia’s shoulder. “It’s going to be okay, Emily. With proper care, Bella’s going to heal up just fine—she’ll be just like any other kid soon.”

“And the adoption paperwork is almost finished,” Joyce added. “Normally it takes about thirty business days, but if everything keeps going smoothly, it might be wrapped up even sooner!”

Emilia nodded vigorously, her eyes shimmering with relief.

Yes, everything was finally falling into place.

Before long, Bella would recover. The adoption would go through. They’d finally be a real family.

As they approached the general ward, Emilia spotted Christian and Theodore waiting in the hall.

The two men had been talking quietly, but fell silent when they saw the group approaching.

“We came to check on Bella,” Theodore said.

Christian nodded emphatically.

Emilia didn’t think much of it. Bella’s surgery was a success, and for the first time in a long while, she felt truly hopeful.
