He’d won the Voice of the Divine championship on nothing but his own merit.
No one could deny it.
“You’re making me want to rewatch Voice of the Divine,” someone commented. “Didn’t it just end not long ago?”
“Haha, same here. This time, I’ll keep an eye out for any scenes with the big guy!”
…
Night had deepened by the time Tyler arrived at Lunar Manor. It was already past eleven.
He parked the car calmly and made his way toward the house where his grandparents lived.
They’d been calling him all evening, urging him to come home.
Now that he was finally back, his grandfather looked ready to grill him with questions. But as soon as the old couple saw Tyler’s expression—quiet and unreadable—they exchanged a glance instead.
Parker Erickson didn’t even reach for his cane.
After a long silence, Parker finally spoke. “What was that news online today all about?”
Tyler’s face was an impassive mask, as if the wild, reckless man from before had never existed.
“Theodore’s courting her,” he said, voice steady and flat. “But I suspect they’re really teaming up to win this bet and help her reclaim what the Dennis family lost.”
His grandparents exchanged another glance. They seemed to think Theodore was quite serious about it.
“I see,” his grandmother said, watching him closely.
Tyler simply nodded, as if all of it was nothing out of the ordinary. “I’m heading to bed now. Goodnight, Grandpa. Goodnight, Grandma.” He bowed slightly, then turned to leave.
But as he stepped over the threshold, something warm dripped down his face.
He touched his nose—he was bleeding.
Probably just too much stress, he thought. He wiped at it and kept walking, but before he could take another step, the world went dark and he collapsed.
His grandparents rushed to call the family doctor.
“Looks like he’s been under a lot of pressure lately,” the doctor said after examining him. “Probably just exhaustion and stress. He needs to rest and take care of himself.”
Her illness was the reason her birth parents had abandoned her in the first place.
Emilia gathered her into a gentle hug, full of affection.
Felix McCarthy stepped out from the hallway, smiling as he crouched beside them.
“Don’t worry, Bella. The surgery will be over before you know it,” he reassured her, ruffling her hair.
“Mr. McCarthy,” Bella managed a nervous smile.
Felix nodded to both Emilia and Bella.
That afternoon, it was finally Bella’s turn.
Emilia walked her all the way to the doors of the operating room, lingering until the last possible moment. Felix gave her a reassuring nod, telling her without words that everything would be fine.
Emilia managed a small, awkward smile, then waited outside.
Meanwhile, a black Maybach pulled up in front of Alden City’s First Penitentiary. Once it stopped, Tyler stepped out of the car.
