“And you…” Theodore’s gaze swept over Tyler with thinly veiled disdain. “Go back to your perfect little life with Vivienne.”
There was more he could have said.
Vivienne still owed Emilia for everything she’d done. That reckoning was coming, but there was no reason Tyler needed to know.
With that, Theodore glanced at Owen, who immediately stepped aside, catching the hint.
Theodore turned and strode toward the car parked a short distance away.
Owen hurried over to steady Tyler.
As they turned, they caught sight of Theodore lifting Emilia from the backseat.
She stirred in his arms, eyelids fluttering. “Where are we?” Her voice was thick with sleep.
“The parking garage,” Theodore replied, his tone soft, a gentle smile on his lips as he closed the car door with his free hand. “Don’t worry, just go back to sleep. I’ll carry you upstairs.”
“Mm,” she mumbled, arms looping around his neck as she nestled closer to his chest.
Cradling Emilia, Theodore paused to shoot a final look at Tyler and Owen before turning away, stepping into the elevator, and disappearing behind the doors.
Tyler was livid, jaw clenched so tight it hurt.
Owen saw the storm brewing in his eyes and let out a quiet sigh. “Come on, Tyler. Let’s go take care of things.”
But Tyler shook his head. He’d had enough. He couldn’t let this go; he had to speak to Emilia, had to make things right between them. He couldn’t wait any longer.
Just then, his phone vibrated—Secretary Jensen was calling.
Jensen was with Vivienne. Tyler’s brow furrowed, a wave of dread tightening in his chest. He hesitated, but finally answered.
“Mr. Erickson, it’s bad…” Jensen’s voice was hesitant, almost apologetic.
“Mr. Erickson?” Jensen’s voice crackled through the phone, urgent now.
“I’ll be there,” Tyler finally replied.
First, he’d deal with Vivienne.
Depression? Tyler’s lips twisted in a bitter smile.
After overhearing gossip at the clinic last time, he’d dug into the doctor who’d diagnosed Vivienne. What he found confirmed his suspicions—they’d been working together all along.
He’d kept quiet for Vivienne’s sake, but now she was pulling the same old trick?
And how had she managed to sneak into Hillside Manor? He’d demand answers for that, too.
With that thought, he slid into the car with Owen, and together they sped off toward the clinic.
