Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose novel Chapter 61

**Healing Slowly But Surely**
By R. Joseph

Punish her.

Kael.

I can still vividly recall that day when Chalice sat us down to share the news of her pregnancy. Her face radiated joy, and her auburn hair was swept up high into a playful ponytail, bouncing with every movement. She wore a simple floral dress that accentuated her natural beauty, a beauty that seemed even more striking without a trace of makeup. In that moment, she looked ethereal—like a vision from a dream.

With a childlike eagerness, she placed the medical report on the table, her voice ringing with excitement as she squealed, “I’m pregnant!”

At that moment, I was frozen in shock. The news hit me like a freight train, and I found myself grappling with a whirlwind of emotions. I wasn’t even sure if I was ready to embrace fatherhood yet. But there was something about the sheer joy in her smile, the unwavering certainty in her eyes, that sparked a flicker of reassurance deep within me—something I couldn’t quite articulate.

“I am pregnant, guys! I just found out today!”

Caelum was ecstatic, practically bouncing off the walls with glee. Yet, amidst our jubilation, Zevran stood apart, his face a mask of confusion. He began to pace around the room, a wild look in his eyes, before turning to me with an unexpected question:

“Can we ask her to go for another pregnancy test?”

His words left me momentarily speechless, as if I were seeing him for the first time.

“What?”

“Can we ask her to abort the baby?”

Hell, it felt like he was throwing a bucket of ice-cold water over our celebration. He didn’t stop there; he questioned whether we were ‘ready’ to take on the role of parents, whether she was ‘healthy enough’ to be a mother.

And now, I could only imagine that he was reveling in the aftermath.

Happy now that the baby is gone. Another loss thrust upon us by Leilani.

My fists clenched tightly as I glared at Chalice, who lay there, pale and fragile, the result of losing so much blood. A multitude of machines surrounded her, tubes snaking into her body, and every so often, she would tremble in her sleep, her face contorting with fear as she cried out, “Don’t hurt my baby, he’s innocent!”

The sight shattered whatever remnants of my heart still held together. The thought of her waking up to face the brutal truth—that our baby was gone—filled me with dread.

Her son. Our son… was gone.

I growled under my breath, “As long as that Frostclaw boy is backing Leilani, we can’t touch her. We need to devise something truly vile.”

“Should we have her kidnapped?” Caelum suggested, breaking the heavy silence. Zevran remained quiet, his brow furrowed as he rifled through the papers scattered across the desk, deep in thought.

His silence only fueled my anger more than Leilani’s earlier arrogance. I snapped, “Zevran?”

He lifted his gaze to meet mine, confusion flickering in his eyes. “Huh?”

“Do you still love Chalice?”

“I do. What’s the matter?”

I rolled my eyes, frustration bubbling to the surface. “Maybe the fact that you seem completely unfazed by what happened to her is my problem!” I seethed. “I know you have some—ridiculous soft spot for Leilani, but she has gone too far this time!”

Zevran’s gaze shifted away from me, landing on Chalice. When he looked back at me, I saw something I hadn’t noticed before: relief.
