**Healing Slowly But Surely**

“Damn it!” I muttered under my breath, frustration bubbling within me as I stepped into the lavish hall, which was alive with the chatter and laughter of countless socialites. My traitorous gaze was instantly drawn to a striking figure at the far end of the room—a girl in a red dress that clung to her like a second skin, laughing effortlessly with none other than Alpha Frostclaw himself.

I didn’t need to confirm it; I knew that girl was Leilani. Who else could ignite such a fierce fire within my wolf if not her?

Yet, witnessing their closeness twisted something deep in my gut. Perhaps it was the way they shared laughter so easily, or how Frostclaw draped his arms over her, making my blood simmer with uncontainable rage.

This was not the night I had envisioned for myself.

Rolling my eyes, I turned to my brothers, hoping for some solidarity, but they were equally entranced by the scene unfolding before us. Zevran looked like he might hurl at any moment, his grip on his phone so tight that I feared it might shatter.

“Get a grip, you two! What’s with the bloody pheromones?” I snapped, snapping my fingers in front of their faces.

They didn’t respond verbally, but I could see it in their eyes—the unmistakable green-eyed monster of jealousy. It coursed through our veins, a dark current that threatened to consume us.

Before I could process it further, Chalice stepped away from us, moving toward Leilani with a determination that made my heart race. I wanted to call out, to stop her, but the crowd was too thick, and I could only watch helplessly as she approached. My anxiety spiked as I feared for her safety.

Moments later, I caught sight of Chalice’s expression—her face had drained of color, terror etched across her features.

A surge of adrenaline coursed through my veins. My anger ignited as I stormed toward them, but before I could reach her, Leilani was already sauntering away, Frostclaw at her side. Chalice remained behind, visibly shaken, tears glistening in her eyes.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” I asked, concern lacing my voice. The moment the words left my lips, she jumped, her eyes wide with fright as she spun around to face me.

Relief washed over her when she realized it was only me, but I couldn’t ignore the slight tremor in her hands or how her gaze flickered nervously toward Leilani and Frostclaw.

That was all the confirmation I needed—Leilani had indeed hurt her. “What happened? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“You don’t look too good either,” Zevran chimed in, his brow furrowed with concern.

“Should we go home?” Kael asked, his tone filled with worry.

Chalice shook her head vigorously, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears as she murmured, “No, please don’t. I’m fine. It’s just that Leilani scares me sometimes.”

Of course, it had to be that insufferable wench! My heart raced with anger.

“What did she say?” I pressed, unable to contain my curiosity, earning a few quizzical glances from women passing by.

I brushed them off, focusing on Chalice, who was now dabbing at her eyes with a small handkerchief. I noticed her hands still trembled—whatever had transpired was clearly serious.

“She threatened me,” she sniffled, her voice barely above a whisper. “She said she would hurt me badly if we continued to pursue the charges. I thought she was just trying to scare me, but she seemed… serious. Even Alpha Frostclaw looked like he was in on it.”

“Leilani has him wrapped around her finger. Of course, he would be complicit,” Kael snapped, and I couldn’t help but notice how Chalice’s expression fell at his words. For a brief moment, she looked uncomfortable, a flicker of jealousy crossing her features.

But jealous of what? Leilani? That was absurd!

I shook my head, dismissing the thought. “Don’t let her threats get to you. She’s nothing but a tramp.”

“But Frostclaw isn’t a tramp, is he? He wouldn’t make empty promises… would he?”

Her question hung heavy in the air, the weight of it pressing down on us like a leaden blanket.
