The chapel filled with thunderous applause.
“Next, I will read the wedding vows. I invite not only the bride and groom, but everyone here to listen with your hearts and cherish the ones you love.”
The officiant's voice grew more solemn and dignified.
“Mr. Lamont, do you take this beautiful Ms. Macclain to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to hold her hand and grow old with her, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, to stand by her through thick and thin, as her partner for life?”
Jonathan gazed deeply at Estelle, his expression serious and sincere. “I do. I promise to care for her, cherish her, and be faithful to her for the rest of my life.”
The officiant then turned to Estelle. “Ms. Macclain, do you take Mr. Lamont to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to support and walk beside him, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, to share in all of life’s joys and sorrows, and to love this man forever?”
Estelle’s eyes were fixed on Jonathan as she nodded firmly. “I do. I promise to love you without reservation, until the end of time.”
A glimmer shone in Jonathan's eyes. His tenderness, his warmth—from the very beginning, now, and into the future—would belong to her and her alone.
The officiant announced with a smile, “I now pronounce Mr. Lamont and Ms. Macclain husband and wife. Please join me in congratulating them!”
The quiet chapel once again erupted in applause. It seemed everyone was moved by the scene, their eyes glistening with tears, their hearts touched. The applause was fervent and long-lasting.
Magdalen clapped along, her eyes on the couple standing face to face. A sting of emotion pricked her eyes, but the smile on her face only grew wider.
Emily, too, was moved to tears. Having witnessed Estelle's journey of love from the beginning, she felt an indescribable joy and excitement to see it finally culminate in this perfect moment.
Amid the applause, the officiant spoke again.
