"And those containers, they’re all empty. They’re not even what your construction site requires..."
Regarding the container information, Caleb Lockwood sent someone to beat up the contractor.
The contractor indeed did not know much and didn’t realize at the time that Adam Aldrin placed several layers of containers on the site to cover up the concrete stairs of an abandoned power distribution room.
The contractor might be innocent, but Adam Aldrin certainly isn’t.
"You say you want to call the police, right? Perfect, let me help you... Intentional murder, the police love cases like this."
Seeing Caleb Lockwood stand up, Adam Aldrin knelt down with a thud at Caleb Lockwood’s feet.
"President Lockwood, please be magnanimous. I was wrong. I truly realize my mistake... it wasn’t me, it really wasn’t me... even if I had a hundred times the courage, I wouldn’t dare to kill anyone! Let alone your ex-wife..."
Adam Aldrin explained while kowtowing to Caleb Lockwood.
Caleb Lockwood lifted his foot and kicked Adam Aldrin away.
"I don’t want to hear nonsense."
After saying this lightly, he nodded at the people beside him.
"Keep beating."
The thugs swarmed, and Adam Aldrin cried out in pain while shouting:
"It was Cynthia Fulton... it was Cynthia Fulton!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
In the hospital room.
Serena Jennings got the news from the police; Cynthia Fulton had already been apprehended.
Adam Aldrin was Serena Jennings’ client; they’d worked together more than once. Initially, Serena couldn’t figure out why Adam Aldrin wanted to harm her.
There was no conflict of interest between her and Adam Aldrin. Adam even appreciated her design and signed a long-term supply contract with her.
Until the police informed her that Adam Aldrin had confessed, saying Cynthia Fulton used seductive means to beg him for help.
But Adam Aldrin never intended for Cynthia Fulton to cause any deaths.
He was only responsible for sending the message to lure Serena Jennings to the construction site.
Serena lay in her hospital bed, holding her phone and sneering.
"Truly, love blinds reasoning."
For a woman like Cynthia Fulton, Adam Aldrin really dug his own grave.
Thinking this, Serena dialed a number.
"I’m quite flattered that a beautiful lady is actively reaching out to me!"
A voice long unheard spoke through the receiver.
"I hope you’re doing well, Attorney Shepherd!"
"Thanks to you, life is manageable."
"I’m bringing you a case, interested?"
Felix Shepherd chuckled upon hearing Serena’s words.
"Sounds more like you’re pushing me into a pit of fire!"
"I’m quite resourceful right now, you can name your price."
"Fair enough! I’d be even happier if you spent the night with me."
Seeing Felix Shepherd was still the same, Serena couldn’t help but laugh and cry.
"Don’t even think about it."
"I think I’m not bad-looking! I’m quite skilled in that area too, it’s worth a shot."
"If you keep talking about this, I’ll hang up."
"No, no, no..."
Felix Shepherd was in his law firm, speaking to Serena on the phone while dismissing his flirtatious assistant.
"Let’s talk business! What’s the case?"
Serena recounted her ordeal with Cynthia Fulton to Felix Shepherd in detail.
"Attempted murder... the maximum sentence is life imprisonment."
"That’s the one."
"So you want me to represent you in this case?"
Felix Shepherd barely finished the sentence before he heard Serena burst into laughter on the other end.
"I want you to be Cynthia Fulton’s defense attorney."
Felix Shepherd was stunned, then burst into hearty laughter.
"Serena, I think you’re up to no good now?"
"Giving a bad person the punishment they deserve is a good deed from my side."
"Alright, alright, whatever you say!"
The day after Serena finished the call, Ethan White informed her that Cynthia Fulton had hired Felix Shepherd as her defense attorney.
Then Felix Shepherd diligently defended Cynthia Fulton, ultimately sending her to prison with a life sentence.
Upon hearing this result, Serena couldn’t help but praise Felix Shepherd for his strong professional capabilities.
In theory, with Cynthia Fulton jailed and Adam Aldrin having confessed, the matter had come to an end.
Caleb Lockwood gazed at Serena, his eyes showing a trace of admiration.
"You’re calmer and stronger than I thought..."
Serena was stunned.
Was Caleb Lockwood... complimenting her?
Serena smiled gently.
"Not too bad, considering I’m used to it."
"What?"
Caleb Lockwood raised an eyebrow.
He hadn’t caught her words, nor understood their meaning.
Serena’s eyes, clear as water, suddenly turned murky, like milk added to whiskey.
Indeed, Caleb Lockwood didn’t remember.
He didn’t remember her, nor the candies he brought her daily while she was in confinement.
Yet, the taste of those candies still lingered vividly in her memory.
"Caleb Lockwood, I was once locked..."
The door creaked as it opened, and the caregiver Serena hired entered, pausing upon seeing Caleb Lockwood and Mr. Miller.
Then they placed a thermometer on Serena’s bedside table and quietly entered the adjacent attendant room, closing the door behind them.
Serena licked her dry lips.
There was no point now in bringing up the juvenile detention center days.
Her connection with Caleb Lockwood had long been severed.
"Caleb Lockwood, thank you for saving my life."
Caleb Lockwood was surprised.
"You knew it was me who saved you?"
"Yes, Ethan White told me."
Even if he hadn’t told her, she would have known.
Caleb Lockwood lowered his gaze slightly, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
"By the way, this is for you..."
Caleb Lockwood pulled something out of his trouser pocket and handed it to Serena.
