First Love Only? I Left Him First, Now the CEO Can't Let Go novel Chapter 291

Chapter 291: Chapter 291: Growing Old Alone

Caleb Lockwood’s mouth curled down toward his chin.

This post was made by Lance Lockwood.

In one of the two photos, Lance is pictured with Serena Jennings, smiling broadly.

Caleb hadn’t seen Lance smile so happily in quite a while.

On the other side, Serena was also beaming with joy.

A smile of genuine happiness like this hadn’t graced Serena’s face for a long time.

Or perhaps, Serena had never smiled like this in front of him.

Before Claire Shaw returned to the country, maybe she had.

But he never noticed.

Now that he wanted to see it, Serena wouldn’t smile at him like that anymore.

Caleb frowned and tightened his grip on his phone.

The other photo in the post was of a table full of dishes.

These dishes were home-cooked, the portions small but with plenty of variety.

Because aside from Lance, there were only servants at the old residence.

If the portions were too big, they would be leftovers, turning into overnight food.

So Serena usually cooked many dishes but kept the portions controlled.

These dishes in the photo were all Lance’s favorites.

There were steamed pork ribs, four happiness meatballs, vegetarian braised tofu, seasonal stir-fry, and rice ball soup.

Looking at the dishes in the photo, Caleb swallowed.

Only then did he realize he hadn’t had dinner yet!

Serena didn’t come home tonight; she obviously stayed directly at the Lockwood family old residence.

Not only did she take a picture with his grandfather, but she also made a table full of delicious food for him.

And what about him?

He couldn’t even smell the aroma of Serena’s cooking.

Caleb’s stomach growled loudly.

He kept a stern face and directly called Lance.

"Grandpa, are you asleep?"

Lance’s voice on the other end sounded particularly energetic.

"Not asleep, just waiting for you kid to call me!"

Hearing Lance’s words, Caleb’s eyes were filled with blame.

As he expected, Lance, who rarely posted on social media, posted these two photos in the morning just to deliberately provoke him.

"Grandpa, I’m your real grandson, what good does it do you to make me upset?"

"Back then you insisted on divorcing Serena, didn’t you consider me to be your real grandpa?"

"It’s Serena who insisted on the divorce, not me."

"Oh... was it not you who, despite being married, was seen going around with another woman? Was your wife supposed to just sit back and accommodate that?"

"..."

Caleb was rendered speechless by Lance’s blunt retort.

"What’s wrong? Now you’ve realized how blind you were before, realizing Serena is not only beautiful but smart and capable too? Regret it, don’t you!"

"..."

Listening to the taunting sarcasm over the phone, Caleb truly regretted calling Lance.

"Grandpa, what is Serena doing now?"

"Serena has already gone to sleep."

"...ok..."

"What’s okay about it!"

Lance’s voice became even more grumpy, "I heard you’ve already left with empty hands, you now have nothing; if you can’t win Serena back, you might end up old and lonely!"

After he finished, Lance hung up first.

Listening to the dial tone coming from the receiver, Caleb’s mouth puckered like a duck.

Is this how unwelcome he is in his grandfather’s eyes?

Faced with such a changed Caleb, Serena found it hard to adapt.

Even in the juvenile detention center or as a junior high student, Caleb’s actions were full of defiance, hardly as reserved as he was now.

Serena stared at Caleb for a long time, suddenly laughing out loud.

Caleb frowned.

"So, do I look funny dressed like this?"

Serena shook her head.

"Not funny, it just seems unnecessary for you to dress like this. Even if you did leave with nothing, the Lockwood family still has plenty of assets left for you."

As soon as she spoke, Serena heard Lance assertively say:

"That would be what he deserves, I certainly won’t leave any assets for him."

Upon hearing this, Caleb immediately shrugged at Serena.

"See? I’m really this miserable now, destitute."

When Serena was about to sit down for breakfast, Lance had already finished eating, stood up, and gave Caleb a look.

Leaving Serena and Caleb alone at the dining table.

Serena focused on eating.

Caleb focused on watching Serena eat.

This breakfast was a fusion of Eastern and Western styles, with century egg congee, chilled pork tripe slice, and toasted bread with ham, lettuce, butter, and jam.

Serena was aware of Caleb watching her, but she continued to eat her breakfast undisturbed, savoring every bite.

This meal was much better than what Caleb had cooked before.

"Caleb Lockwood..."

With the breakfast nearly finished, Serena called Caleb’s name proactively.

She lifted her head, meeting Caleb’s starlit eyes.

Caleb wore a smile, relaxed and carefree, clearly relieved despite having left with nothing.

"Although you handed the Lockwood Group to me willingly, now that it’s mine, I won’t hold back."

Serena’s point was subtle, but she believed Caleb understood.
