Nash was completely lost. He was sure he’d watched Pearl walk in, and he hadn’t seen her leave.
“Let’s check inside,” Fiona said.
Since they were already here, they might as well do a proper search.
The three of them slipped into the private room. The lights were low, smoke hung in the air, and nobody seemed to notice three extra people had joined the party.
That is, until a girl in the middle of making out with her date glanced over and caught sight of Nash behind her boyfriend. Her eyes lit up instantly—so her best friend hadn’t exaggerated at all.
This guy was seriously good-looking.
She looked back at her own date, and the comparison was almost depressing.
“You. Move,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. Why stick with what she had, when there was a much better option standing right there?
Nash had no idea he’d caught anyone’s attention. He just shook his head at Fiona—Pearl wasn’t here.
“Let’s go,” Fiona mouthed, meeting Tyler’s eyes as they all got up to leave.
But as Nash stood, the girl beside him locked her gaze on him and suddenly reached out, grabbing his arm and nearly pulling him right into her lap.
She looked thrilled at the idea of Nash falling into her arms, grinning as she leaned in. Luckily, Nash moved fast—otherwise, she probably would have kissed him.
“Get off!” Nash snapped, twisting away and kicking out. The girl barely had time to react before she toppled over onto the other end of the couch, her perfect makeup smudged with a clear shoe print.
She yelped in pain, drawing everyone’s attention.
Someone flicked on the lights, and suddenly the whole room realized there were three strangers among them. The mood shifted in an instant—suspicion and tension filled the air.
“Who are you?” someone demanded.
Just then, the door behind them swung open. Pearl appeared, hanging onto a handsome guy who was kissing her like it was the most normal thing in the world.
The three friends turned immediately, locking eyes with Pearl. In that split second, everyone understood what was happening.
“Fiona!” Pearl blurted, her wine glass slipping from her hand and crashing to the floor.
Only one thought ran through her mind—run.
There was no way she could let Fiona catch her. That would be a disaster.
She just needed to dodge her for one night. By tomorrow, she’d be long gone, and Fiona wouldn’t be able to find her.
Fiona and the others didn’t waste a second. They shoved past the two blocking the door and burst out of the room, splitting up to chase Pearl from three different directions.
Pearl, panicking, darted the wrong way and ended up running up the stairs to the second floor. Finally, she found herself trapped in a corner, a railing behind her and no way out.
