Forsaken by the Moon Goddess novel Chapter 17

Sloane

Monday morning, everyone was buzzing about Scarlet’s birthday party. By Monday afternoon, everyone was wondering who pissed off Benedict. I have to admit, his aura was pretty heavy when he talked to me in class. I was wondering if he was angry at me, but he never said anything to me after asking me about my weekend.

Honestly, I was surprised he even bothered asking about that. It’s not like we’re friends.

Then, on Tuesday, he showed up acting normal again. I secretly wondered who he buried overnight, but it seemed Like everyone that I knew was still alive.

On Wednesday when I get home, my Aunt Samara surprises me.

“Sloane! I called Elizabeth. Scarlet is coming over and we’re taking you dress shopping for Alpha Benedict’s birthday party. I thought it might be easier for you if Scarlet came with us and then she can spend the night.”

“I have to get a dress?” | groan.

“I’m afraid so, sweetheart. Luna Beatrice is VERY specific about the dress code for her parties. Since this is Benedict’s eighteenth birthday, she’s has even higher expectations.””Can’t | just go to Will’s pack with Scarlet?” | ask her.

“No, you can’t. You already told your grandfather you’d go see him. If you’re going to do this, Sloane, you need to take as much time as possible before you graduate to acclimate yourself with his pack and the pack members.

You can expect that they will challenge you once it’s announced that you are Waylon’s heir.”

“Then maybe I should be practicing my fighting skills, not going to some stupid party,” I grumble.

“Sloane,” my uncle says, walking up behind my Aunt Samara. “If you’re going to be an Alpha, parties like this are necessary. Do you think I enjoy them? I don’t. I hate them. I’d rather stay home and sit on the couch with my mate and family, watch movies, and eat popcorn. But as an incoming Alpha, it would be extremely beneficial for you to begin to create alliances with Benedict and other Alphas. You and Alpha Benedict will be neighboring packs. That can be very good, or very bad depending on the relationship that you and he have. These kinds of events should be used to strengthen those alliances, create new ones, or identify Alphas that you want to avoid. So, don’t think of this as a party, think of it as a strategic opportunity for you to pave the way to becoming an Alpha of your own pack,” he says.

“Fine,” I say. I know my uncle is extremely intelligent when it comes to managing his relationships with other packs. I’ve just never paid a lot of attention like Slade has because I wasn’t expecting to become the Luna of a pack, much less the Alpha. Aunt Samara is right, though. I have very little time to learn the things that Alpha Roman has been teaching Slade and Theo for the last decade.

Thankfully, Scarlet and Aunt Samara made the shopping fun. While I hated trying on dress after dress, I finally settled on an emerald green floor-length dress. It’s form fitting with spaghetti straps and a heart-shaped beaded bodice. The skirt flares out on the side where a slit, that is – higher than should be legal, rides up to the top of my thigh. According to Scarlet, it’s sexy as fuck especially with my hot fucking legs. Her words, not mine. Aunt Samara said the way the skirt floats around my leg, it keeps the slit presentable. So, unless I intentionally stand so my leg is out of the slit, no one will know that they re about an inch away from seeing the slit where a woman delivers a baby.

Over dinner, we talk about how I should do my hair.

Scarlet wants me to do something wild that stands out, but Aunt Samara suggests a simple, yet elegant bun at the nap of my neck.

“I cannot believe I’m going to miss you all decked out, Sloane! I’m almost willing to cancel my weekend with Will just to see the entire student population swallow their tongue when you walk in the room!” Scarlet says as we walk inside.

“Did you get a dress?” Uncle Roman asks.

“I did.””Good. I can’t wait to see you in it.”

The rest of the week, the competition between Benedict and I at school seemed to ratchet up. We’re coming to the end of the school year with final projects coming due and finals just around the corner. I know, for me, I’m spending every free moment I have studying and completing my projects.

I want that title of Valedictorian. I WANT to beat Benedict.

When I got my grade on a final project in Physics, an A rather than an At, I spun around to see if Benedict beat me.

He gave me a mock glare when I sighed in relief. A B+ for him.

However, we flipped grades in Calculus, with him getting an A and me getting the B+.
