Benedict
She turns her head to look at me, nearly brushing her lips against mine. She looks at my mouth, then pulls her head back as far as possible to answer me. She’s still close enough that I can feel her breath against my lips.
“I’m pretty confident he will. I intend to talk to Grandpa Waylon tomorrow before | leave to find out what he knows about Kaelin’s whereabouts and what Kaelin might know about what’s going on in the pack.”
“When I was talking to Bethany about it last night…”
“You told your sister about me?” she asks.
I blink. “I’m sorry. I should have asked you first. I trust Bethany with every secret I have. She would never betray that trust. Just like you trust Scarlet, I trust Bethany. But you’re right, I should have asked before I told her.”
“Are you sure she’ll keep it a secret?”
“She’s the one who saw you over here and realized you were Waylon’s successor. Did you ever hear it from anyone else? Beth knows how to keep a secret. She’s very good at it.”
“If this comes out before we make an announcement, Im holding you personally responsible, Benedict.”
“As you should.”She sighs. “So, what did she say?”
“She said that Kaelin will challenge you right away for the pack.”
“I’m sure he will. I’m sure he thinks it’s his birthright. I’m not sure if Grandpa Waylon is going to announce me as his successor or his heir, but either way, Kaelin will challenge me. From everything I’ve seen and heard about the man, I’m not concerned.”
“He may challenge you to a battle to the death, Sloane,” I say.
“Then, he’ll die. He’s not good enough to defeat me, Benedict. I’m happy to prove myself to you if you’d like.”
“Actually, I would like that, but let’s do it when we get to your pack, because I have another question for you. Have you considered that Kaelin still has friends in this pack giving him insider information?”
“Scarlet mentioned that, and honestly, we both think Gabriel and Jack are part of the Kaelin crew.”
“If he brings an army, Sloane, my pack will fight beside you.”
She raises an eyebrow. “Your father will call the pack to war? Even without an alliance agreement with me?”
“I will call the pack to war, Sloane. My father is ready to retire. He’s tired. I know it, the pack knows it. He’s only waiting for graduation now for me to take over. mayeven be Alpha if and when Kaelin attacks.”
“Oh, it’s not an if, it’s a when. And I’m more concerned that he’ll bring an army to attack. This pack is ridiculously weak, and I won’t have enough time to get them up to fighting strength if he brings a real army. I probably shouldn’t even tell you that because you could use it against me.”
I growl, turning her face to mine. “I am not here gaining intel about this pack, Sloane. I have no intention of betraying you, attacking this pack, trying to take it over, or whatever just crossed your mind. I am here because l like you. I am here because I can be myself and talk freely when I’m with you. I am here because I really do enjoy I spending time with you. I know you’re used to everyone being against you. But I’m not. I never have been.”
She licks her lips, drawing my eyes to them. “And besides all that, I love the way you fucking taste. I love the way you smell. I love the sounds you make when we kiss. I love the way you give in to the kiss and to me when I’m getting lost in you. If you’re going to accuse me of anything, accuse me of being here because I want more kisses. I want more of your taste and smell. I’m so addicted to you that I was practically desperate to get here tonight just so I could kiss you.”
I slide my hand into her hair. “If you want to accuse me of that, then I have no excuse. I’m addicted, Stoane. I’m addicted to you. After just one night, I can’t stop thinking about you. I can’t stop remembering the feel of your lipsagainst mine. My lips tingle with the memory of our kisses and all I want to do is kiss you again so I can see if my memory is as good as the real thing. And after kissing you tonight, I know it’s not. Kissing you is one of the greatest pleasures of my life,” I say.
She scoffs, but I grab onto her ponytail, forcing her to look at me. “I mean what I’m saying, Sloane. Last night was the best night of my life. I’ve never felt so relaxed around anyone before. Kissing you? Yeah, I know you don’t have any experience, but it didn’t matter. Kissing you was fucking incredible. I know I got carried away last night, but even doing nothing more than kissing you, Sloane, it was still one of the most erotic nights of my life. That’s how incredible it felt to kiss you.”
“You’re making it very hard to resist you, Benedict,” she says, making me smile.
“Good, then I’m doing something right,” I say, taking her mouth in another incredible kiss.
When she starts whimpering, I pull back. “We were going to study, right?” I ask, grinning.
She grunts. “Yeah, we were.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to sit in my lap?” I ask, tapping my thigh.
She narrows her eyes at me.
