The next morning, I take on Jack until I decide that he isn’t worth my time since he taps out almost before he hits the ground.

Since Gabriel is still recovering from the distocated knee that Scarlet gave him, it is easy for the two of us to focus on the warriors who really do want to improve.

But after sparring, Scarlet immediately goes into best friend mode, grabbing me and holding me back as the others go inside for breakfast.

He could be lying.”

She stares at me, blinking without saying a word. I frown.

Scarlet is NEVER quiet.

“What? Why are you looking at me like that?” | ask.

“Hang on,” she says, holding up a finger and lookingbehind her. A few moments later, Daniel comes jogging up.

“Hey baby, what’s up?”

“Tell Daniel what you just told me.”

“Scarlet, he doesn’t care,” I say, totally embarrassed and not happy that my best friend is bringing her mate into our personal conversation.

“Sloane, trust me. Just tell him.”

I huff. “Fine. Scarlet wanted to know what was going on with me and Benedict…”

“Scarlet…” he growls softly.

“She’s my best friend, Daniel. Hush and listen,” she says, not looking away from me.

I roll my eyes. “He says he’s here because he likes me, he likes the way, taste, he likes the way I smell…”

“Oh,” Daniel says, no longer looking annoyed with Scarlet.

“See what I mean?” Scarlet says to him.

“Yeah,” he says slowly, watching me.

“Well, I don’t see what you mean. Could you be a little clearer, Scarlet.”

“Sweetie, do you remember when we came to visit Alpha Waylon, before my birthday, and Daniel showed us around+15 Bonus

“Yeah,” I say, frowning.

“He liked the way I smelled too,” she says slowly, watching me carefully.

“like the way you smell, so what?” l ask.

“Sloane,” Scarlet groans, but Daniel cuts her off, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her against him.

“I couldn’t get Scarlet out of my head after that visit, Alpha. Every moment of the day, I’d think of her. I’d swear I’d catch whiffs of her scent and I’d be distracted all day thinking about her. All I wanted was to see her again. But then she went to Alpha Will’s pack, and I thought everything was over until Friday night,” he says.

When I continue to blink at him, he sighs. “Friday night when I realized that she is my mate. She wasn’t eighteen when I saw her before, but I think that I liked her scent because it was the early stages of me recognizing the mate bond,” he says slowly.
