After seeing all the chaos in the first round, Ronan didn’t dare make things too wild this time. He decided to organize something safer and quieter.

“Next up, we’re going to test how well parents and kids know each other. We’ll play a game of Pictionary. The kid draws, Mom guesses, and Dad comes up with the word–or Mom and Dad can swap if they want.”

After quickly explaining the rules, Ronan had each family draw lots to decide the order.

Athena felt like her luck was always terrible.

She was worried she’d pick first again. Even though they won the last round, that was all thanks to Zaden.

She turned to him and said, “Why don’t you draw this time?”

Zaden raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

“I’m just worried I’ll pick first again.”

He smirked. “Relax. Even if we go first, we’ll still win. Doesn’t matter who draws.”

With his encouragement, Athena stopped stressing.

“Alright, I’ll do it.”

Nervous, she stepped up to draw a card. She peeked at it carefully, and when she saw they got third, her eyes

Ronan stepped up again and went over the rules.

Lewis sat in a chair while Nina stood behind him holding a small blackboard. She would write the word, Dion would draw it, and Lewis had to guess. If he got it right, they’d move on.

Each round had to be finished in five minutes, and whichever family guessed the most words would win.

Athena listened carefully.

The game didn’t sound too hard, but there were a lot of rules. For example, the kid couldn’t write any part of the word itself.

It was really a test of teamwork.

Nina was full of confidence. Before Lewis started ignoring her, Dion and Lewis had always been close to her. They’d lived together for years–surely, their teamwork would be perfect.

She was sure they’d win this time.

The first word she picked was watermelon. She and Dion both loved eating it, and she believed Lewis would guess it easily.

Dion saw the word and drew a circle with a vine attached.

Lewis frowned. “Balloon.”

“No!”

He stiffened and tried again. “Yarn ball?”

“Still wrong! Mr. Belmont, hurry up, a minute’s already gone!”

Lewis’s face darkened. How could that not be right?

Nina paced behind him, anxious but unable to help. Dion couldn’t believe Lewis wasn’t getting it, so he added more details.

But the more he drew, the messier it got.

Lewis became even more confused.

He kept guessing over and over until he finally got it right. But after all that wasted time, they only managed to get two correct answers in five minutes.

When time was up, Ronan said, “Mr. and Mrs. Belmont, you guys really need to work on your

Lewis’s face turned stormy, while Nina looked unwilling to accept defeat.

Dion was the most upset. “Dad! How could you not get it? I clearly drew a watermelon!”

“Your drawing was terrible. I couldn’t tell what it was at all.”

Athena watched the three of them arguing and couldn’t help feeling a little emotional.

She never expected them to be so out of sync. All those years between Lewis and Nina suddenly felt like a joke.
