Chapter 228 Let’s Go Check on Teri
Athena walked out of the restaurant and was about to call a ride home.
She had just taken out her phone when a shadow suddenly fell across her. She looked saw Zaden standing right in front of her.
He said in a low voice, “I’ll drive you home.”
Athena was speechless, completely defeated.
Well, I guess I can’t avoid this after all!
She accepted her fate and slumped, not putting up any resistance at all.

Deep down, she still didn’t really want to get tangled up with him, but there was no point in making a scene, since they had separated on good terms.
Athena nodded lightly, and Zaden turned to get his car.
Soon, he pulled up in front of her. Athena thought for a moment, then opened the back door and got in. Given their relationship status, sitting in the front just didn’t feel right anymore.
Zaden glanced back at her.
Then he hit the gas and drove off.
“Did you enjoy the matchmaking event?” Athena was lost in thought when she suddenly heard him asking the question.
She cleared her throat and said, “You’ve got it all wrong. I wasn’t there for matchmaking. I already told you this event was arranged for Kit.”
Of course, Zaden didn’t believe her.
His eyes turned cold as he said, “So this is how you plan to get back with Lewis? Eight years together, and you claimed that you can’t let him go. But given the circumstances, I guess your feelings aren’t as deep as you said.”
Athena didn’t know how to respond to his sharp questioning.
She knew there was no point in explaining anymore.
Finally, she gave up and said, “Fine, I did go to a matchmaking event today, but it was by accident. Kit never told me that’s what it was!”

Zaden frowned deeply.
He was still confused about Kit and Athena’s relationship. He’d always thought Kit liked her, and that was why he stuck around.
But judging from Athena’s tone, it didn’t sound like that at all.
After she finished speaking, Athena felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She continued, “Even if I did go to a matchmaking event, it’s got nothing to do with you. We’re not together anymore, right?”
Zaden pressed his lips together.
She was right. He really didn’t have the right to interfere in her life.
Athena realized she’d been too blunt and noticed Zaden’s face darken.
She felt annoyed at herself, but it was too late to take it back.
The atmosphere in the car grew tense, and neither of them spoke. Athena was suddenly grateful she’d chosen the back seat instead of the front.
Otherwise, things would be even more awkward.
At least there was still some distance between them now.
Zaden focused on driving. With nothing else to do, Athena pulled out her phone to distract herself.
That was when she noticed several missed calls from Harriet. Worried there might be something urgent, she sent her a message.
“Did you call me earlier about something? Are you at Mistvale too?”
Harriet replied almost instantly, “I was honestly shocked today!”
Athena glanced at the man driving in front of her and texted back, “I’m shocked too.”
Who would have thought I’d run into Zaden at such an awkward moment?
No, actually, why did Zaden show up there at all?
Athena scrolled up to look at Harriet’s first message and suddenly everything made sense!
It turned out Harriet had run into her by accident and told Zaden about it. That was why he’d come looking for her.

She put her phone away, only to realize the car wasn’t heading toward her place. She immediately became alert and asked, “Zaden, where are you going?”
“Don’t worry. Teri hasn’t been doing well lately. She’s been having a really tough time. I want to take you to see her…” Then he added, “But if you’re busy, I’ll just take you home right now.”
Hearing Teri’s name, Athena’s expression softened.
She really liked Teri and felt a natural bond with her. Things with Zaden might be complicated, but her feelings toward Teri were sincere.
“It’s fine. Let’s go check on Teri.”
Zaden’s car headed toward the outskirts of town and soon entered a gated private community. Athena looked curiously out the window at her surroundings.
“This doesn’t look like your old place.”
Zaden answered, “Teri’s not doing well. She needs peace and quiet, and this is the only quiet place I own.”
Athena felt a heaviness in her heart.
Sounds like Teri’s really having a hard time. Maybe it’s because of everything that’s happened between me and Zaden.
After Zaden parked the car, they walked into the villa together.
