Chapter 244 She Believes Him
Lewicnoticed how emotional Athena looked and smiled even wider. He gave Anna a small hint Anna looked between them, then said softly, “Mommy.”
Athena was overwhelmed with emotion. She bent down and asked gently. “What’s
“Anna.
Who who were you living with before?”
your name?”
Hearing Athena’s question, Lewis cut in seriously, “Athena, let’s talk about that later. I’ve already asked someone to rush our remarriage papers. Tonight, we’ll sit down as a family and go over everything.
Athena pursed her lips tightly.
She was still legally married to Zaden, so there was no way she could marry Lewis again.
Right then, Zaden walked in slowly. The moment Lewis saw him, his expression turned dark. He quickly realized who Zaden had come with.
Maybe Athena had brought him here.
Lewis’ expression turned stormy, and his tone turned sharp. “Athena, what do you mean?!”
Zaden’s cold gaze locked on Lewis. “You want to remarry Athena? That’s not happening. I’m her legal husband right now.”
Lewis froze in disbelief.
He knew Athena and Zaden had been together for a while. But with all those rumors floating around, he never once thought they were actually married. He’d never imagined they had a marriage certificate!
Lewis’ face was grim. “Athena already agreed to remarry me!”
Then, he turned to her. “Athena, divorce Zaden right now. Let’s start over. Don’t you want our daughter to have a real family? She’s been apart from you for so long-she’s suffered enough.”
Athena looked at Anna standing next to him, her expression pained and conflicted.
She didn’t want to go back to Lewis, but she couldn’t ignore her daughter. She was willing to do anything to make up for the years they’d lost.
Zaden suddenly gave a cold laugh.
His eyes were cold as he stared at Lewis. “Are you sure she’s Athena’s daughter?”
Lewis’ face shifted instantly, his confidence slipping.
Could Zaden know something?
That was impossible!
When he brought Anna back, he made sure every part of her identity and background was hidden. No one could’ve found out.
Maybe Zaden was just bluffing.
Athena heard Zaden’s words and asked, “What do you
mean?”
“She’s not your daughter. Lewis found her and used her to manipulate you.”
Then, Zaden pulled out his phone and sent some files to her phone.
Athena opened the files and started reading. The more she read, the colder she felt inside. Her face turned pale, filled with despair.
Everything about Anna-from her birth to now-was written there. Not a single thing was missing.
Anna wasn’t her daughter!
Lewis noticed Athena staring at her phone, her expression shifting fast. A bad feeling hit him hard.
Did Zaden actually get Anna’s records and send them to Athena?
“Athena, don’t listen to him! Anna is your daughter! He just doesn’t want us to get back together, so he’s trying to mess everything up. Those files are fake-don’t believe him!”
Athena looked straight at Lewis and said coldly, “Do you think I can’t tell what’s real and what’s
not?”
Lewis’ face darkened even more.
She believes Zaden … not me!
The thought made him furious. In such a short time, Athena trusted Zaden so much that she wouldn’t even hear Lewis out.
He burst out furiously, “Athena, we were married for eight years! Don’t I deserve a little trust?
You’d rather believe Zaden than me?”
#Finished
Athena let out a short laugh. “That’s exactly why I don’t believe you. I know you too well.”
She trusted Zaden-not just because of what he said, but because she knew Lewis would do anything to get what he wanted.
She’d doubted things before, but her love for her daughter had stopped her from looking deeper.
Her eyes were cold as she glared at Lewis, her jaw tight. “Where is my real daughter?”
Lewis tried to keep calm and replied darkly, “Anna is your daughter. Believe it or not, that’s the truth. It took me a lot of effort to find her.”
Before he could say more, Zaden laughed mockingly.
“Lewis, why don’t you let Athena and this kid take a DNA test? If she’s really Athena’s daughter, one test will prove it.”
