Chapter 258 Stay Away from Athena!

Zaden was completely under Athena’s spell now. He’d even gone so far as to confine his mother in the hospital because of her. Did he really think she needed treatment like some kind of mental patient?

Beverly gently patted Maya’s hand. “Zaden’s just confused for now,” she said softly. “Once you’re back, he’ll come to his senses and look your way again.”

Maya’s lips curved into a quiet smile. Since Beverly didn’t object, that was as good as support.

With her on her side, Maya felt more confident than ever about winning Zaden back.

After chatting for a while longer, Maya finally said goodbye and went home.

The moment she stepped through the door, Fabio called out, “Maya, come to the study for a minute.”

She followed Fabio inside. “Dad, what’s going on?” she asked.

Fabio hesitated, then said, “You asked me to help the Storms today. I didn’t tell your mother about it. Let’s keep this between us–she wouldn’t be happy if she knew.”

Maya nodded and teased, “I know. Mom watches you like a hawk, always afraid some woman’s going to steal you away–like you’d ever have an affair or an illegitimate daughter or something.”

Fabio and Patricia had always appeared to be the perfect couple in public. Because of that, Maya never believed her father would ever cheat.

That’s why she’d joked so casually.

But the moment she said the words “illegitimate daughter,” Fabio’s face stiffened.

They had kept Athena’s existence hidden from Maya. If she ever found out the truth, she might make trouble for Athena. Fabio didn’t want that to happen.

He cleared his throat. “By the way, now that you’re back, are you planning to join our hospital? I can have someone arrange it right away.”

“No!” Maya quickly shook her head. “I want to work at the hospital of Storm Group.”

Fabio frowned. “What for? Don’t tell me you’re still not over Zaden.”

Maya’s expression darkened at his words.

She crossed her arms and said coldly, “Back then, we missed each other because of bad timing. Now that I’m back, what’s wrong with trying to win him over again?”

Fabio hesitated. He didn’t know what to say.

If Zaden weren’t already involved with Athena, he wouldn’t have interfered. But now, with Maya stepping in again, things could turn ugly. He’d be caught right in the middle.

“Anyway, I’ve made up my mind,” Maya said firmly. “I’m going to join Storm Hospital. You don’t need to talk me out of it. I need to make some preparation; I’m heading to my room now.”

She turned and walked away before he could respond.

When the sound of the door closing echoed, Fabio sighed helplessly.

As Maya climbed the stairs, she ran into Kit coming home. Her brow creased immediately. “Kit, come here.”

He stopped in front of her, his tone casual. “What’s up, Maya?”

“I heard you know Athena,” Maya said sharply. “You two seem pretty close, don’t you?” She hadn’t known much about Athena before. But after learning about Athena and Zaden, she started digging, and that led her straight to Kit.

It turned out Kit had been helping Athena quite a bit.

Maya didn’t know why, but the thought made her blood boil.”

“Do you not realize I used to be with Zaden?” she demanded.

gave her a lazy grin. “Yeah, I know. But you two broke up, didn’t you? So, your ex–boyfriend’s business isn’t really yours anymore, right?”

Maya’s face darkened. “Either way, you need to stop helping Athena!” she snapped.

Her eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing through them. “Wait a second. Do you like her?”

Kit nearly tripped over his feet. “What? No! Don’t make weird guesses like that. I don’t like her!” He blurted out quickly, waving his hands in denial.
